As of the year 2016, there are an estimated 324,118,787 people living in America. 324,118,787 people consider themselves to be Americans and 324,118,787 people have decided that America really is worthy enough to be called home. These people, whether they were born within the country or emigrated from another country, comingle in this melting pot of a nation, sharing grocery stores and hospitals and neighborhoods and all the ideologies that make up American society, and each of these people have their own lives and opinions and personal beliefs. All of these people, all (roughly) 324,118,787 of them, fall under the definition of an American – a person who lives in America, because there is simply no other way to define what an American is when
Watching the “Rape at McDonalds” video was very disturbing. It was shocking to see how all the participants, except for the maintenance man, complied with the bizarre demands of the supposed police, especially Donna Jean Summers. As a manager, she should have known the policies of the company, as a reasonable person, she should had handled the situation in a different way. However, there are some psychological explanations for her behaviors. The law says that we must obey the authority; she believed that she was doing the right thing by following the others given by “the cop” even if the commands were very odd.

The United States of America, is known to be one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world. It has often been referred to by many as a global melting pot or as locals may say callaloo, due to the amassing of diverse ethnicities, cultures and nationalities. Within its borders, resides immigrants or descendants of immigrants from almost every region in the world, and each has in some way added to the American culture and way of life. America is known for its stance on freedom, it is a nation that values equality and justice, this can be noted in the last few words of their national anthem ‘indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’ However, for many, high levels of economic and social inequalities are daily struggles, a battle that has been fought for decades to claim the most basic rights, in the pursuit of achieving the American Dream.
So, as you have read, the exploration and colonization of the America’s had many effects on the Native American’s that had already been living there. Whether it was a change to something of their culture, such as religion or the number of their population, the consequences of the Europeans actions has lingered over time, and much of it is still noticeable
Adam Sorenson Prof. Riggs COMP 01112 2/12/18 Misrepresentation of Native Americans Native American’s for many years now have been viewed as lone warriors or squaw, some people don’t even know that they still exist! People just think of the Native American people in storybook tales and nothing more then that. The Native Americans have been living in the United States for awhile now and were the first ones on the country’s soil. They were here way before Christopher Columbus and the other European Colonists even discovered America and they are still present in the U.S.
What happened in the pre-natal America, when the United States was not the Unites States, it was a group of Anglo-American colonists making their way through the continent on North America, can give us clues how to understand Americans and the evolution of their
The question, “What is an American?”, can be defined differently by different people. What makes up an American can be looked at in different ways. However, an American in my opinion comes from textual evidence, defined through many different readings, such as the “Letters from Columbus”, the story of “Olaudah Equiano”, and from “Of Plymouth Plantation”. As it is defined, Americans come from slavery, but at the same time, they also come from freedom. With points from Equiano and Columbus, and also William Bradford, a Puritan, as well as with the constant changes between exploitative colonialism, violence, and the strive for freedom, America is based around both forms of Slavery and the determination for Freedom.
There are many people in the world who are influential. These people impact the world in a positive way by inspiring people to follow their dreams, show leadership to others, and by their acts. An individual that shows these traits would be the first ever person to create a successful plane, Orville and Wilbur Wright. The Wright brothers are influential because of their accomplishments, character, and his heroic acts.
In the essay “Two Ways to Belong in America,” from 50 essays, Bharati Mukherjee contrasts the different views of the United States from two Indian sisters. The author distinguishes her American lifestyle to her sister’s traditional Indian lifestyle. Both sisters grew up in Calcutta, India, moved to America in search of education and work. Bharati adjusts to the American society very quickly, where her sister Mira clings to her Indian traditions more strongly. Despite both sisters living in America, only Bharati is an American citizen, while her sister Mira is not.
America’s identity is defined differently by every individual. Ideally it was to be a place of freedom and acceptance, identified by its message of liberty and hard-work, however the question arises whether America is a melting pot in which only one culture dominates or it a mosaic of many peoples’ histories. America’s potential and true identity lies within its ability to assimilate and create a natural individualism despite race, class, and immigration standing. A country as powerful and influential as America is within industry, politics, and socioeconomics cannot be abstract in definition.
There have lived many great people throughout the course of history who have left major influences in the world. The most important influences come from major religious figures, as their ideas and teachings have influenced society and politics. The most influential of all the religious figures in Islam was the Prophet Muhammad, and his achievements influence the modern economy, politics, and society. Muhammad was born in 570 in Mecca, a town in what is now called Saudi Arabia. His father died before he was born, and his mother and a nurse raised him until the age of five or six, until his mother died of illness.
