The confederate flag is immediately recognizable in the back window of a pickup truck or portrayed on the t-shirt for Lynrd Skynrd and Credence Clearwater, but has come under stark criticism. The argument is a multi-faceted assault, by, both restricting first amendment rights of free speech, restricting a symbol of southern heritage, and a person’s right not to feel threatened by an assumed racist epithet. It is a simple piece of fabric, the red and blue Southern Cross, which divides a nation much as it did 150 years ago when it symbolized the fight against oppressive laws. Many believe that the Confederate Flag is representative of the patriots who were willing to sacrifice their lives to protect the nation and individual rights the founding fathers envisioned, however today, liberals and minorities have made the claim, the confederate flag is racist rather than a simple symbol of southern pride.
When you see a confederate flag what do you really see? do you see a sign of racism?do you see a sign of hatred? Discrimination? It's different for many people for some people it reminds them of home and family. Some feel it is a sign of racism, hatred, discrimination, whipping, beatings, and blood.
The confederate flag debate has been going on for a very long time, and the same types of arguments for what the flag stands for have not really changed since the debate started. The flag itself from what I have understood has many different meanings that can be changed depending on the side that you land on. My other belief is that since the flag can have different meanings at not only different times but also by different people, are that since the flag was a symbol that represented confederacy, their mindsets or beliefs end up contributing to the overall consequence of what the flag stands for. The flag nowadays has this underlying tone because of the motions that the confederacy was trying to get approved.
The confederate flag was banned due to people finding it offensive. The government did not like the fact that it was a rebel banner. The citizens did not like it because it displayed rebellion of the war that had happened during the Civil War. - they think no one was showing respect for the veterans that were in the war. Another reason that the confederate was banned is because people thought it was a rebellious flag.
[ As I sit in the middle of Bragg 's Confederate sanctuary, I wonder whose interpretation of these images is more accurate. Bragg reveres those gray-clad men of honor, courage, and love of country--men he would claim fought to uphold the independence and rights of a sovereign people. I do not see that. I see men who hoped to sustain a society based on chattel slavery and an ideology of white supremacy, a society that held that some men were by right born "booted and spurred" to ride the saddles placed on the backs of Negroes by providence itself. Looking around the room I see images that degrade the memory of my ancestors. Which of our interpretations is more faithful to the historical reality? Who is the true southerner?] (Fort 2002).
The American Flag should be protected from desecration because it is a symbol of what this country has fought for, what we continue to fight for, and how amazing of a country the United States really is. I am very much against desecration of the American flag because it disrespects something that means so much to me and so many other people in this country. The American Flag isn’t just something that hangs on a pole outside someone’s house or business, it is a symbol of what this country has fought for since it was founded on July 4, 1776. It is a symbol of all the brave men and women that have lost their life fighting to protect this country and making it the great country that it is today. One of the reasons why I feel the American flag should
Virginia Foxx once said, “The American flag is the most recognized symbol of freedom and democracy in the world.” Americans should know that they live in the greatest countries known to man. People should not take the freedoms for granted and disrespect the American flag. The American flag should be protected against desecration because it is a symbol of freedom, the military uses the flag to honor those who fought for our country, and it represents historical achievements in American history.
It represents the United States and everyone in it. It represents the people who gave their lives to protect it, and represents that all Americans are free because of those people. People have tried to protect the flag but it is legal to burn the flag because of the first amendment and it has been since Texas V.S Johnson case in 1989. Even if it is wrong to disobey the amendments it shouldn’t be used to get the attention of others to prove a point. People say that they can do this just because it a piece of fabric and they would do the same with any other piece if needed.
Now, some of the states in which the flag represented, have designed their state flags off of the original Confederate Flag. The Confederate Flag should be allowed to be flown because it does not represent racism, it is a southern belief, and it violates the first amendment. The Confederate Flag should be allowed to be flown because it does not represent
People have been fighting over a flag for far too long. It is cloth stained with dye on a pole. Why does something made with cloth and stitches have to separate a country based on freedom? Some people argue the Confederate flag is an item of racism, and should be banned from being flown. Others believe it is “just culture” and “heritage”, nothing more than an item of history that can be used for learning purposes and historical Reenactments.
So they decided to banned the Confederate flag in the states of California, South Carolina, Mississippi, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, and Some companies now everyone has their own opinion on why it was ban but I personally don’t think that they should've banned it. Some say it, they should not ban it because its's a sign of heritage not hate, some say they want to be a rebel, some say they like the way it looks, some say it's because they are proud to be a southerner. But my reason is because I like the way it looks and because it a flag that interest me and in today's society I think it just represents southern pride it a way of showing it.
Lately on the news there has been the fiasco that took place when people took offense to the flying of the Confederate flag. Whether someone believe they flew the flag based on their appreciation of their history and culture, or flew it in order to continue to perpetuate old ideals of systemic oppression no one can

America the only place where corporations are people where half if not more of the clothes people are wearing are made by actual slaves but they complain about a flag bcuz it represents a dark time in american history, when brother bought brother over the slave issue. this is also the place where free speech and beliefs are championd on every channel and in every piece of law there is. i dont agree with slavery but i also dont agree with people loving free speech but hate when someones speech isnt P.C if u want to rock a swastica flag go ahead if u want too rock a confederate flag, go ahead expect people too voice their opinions bcuz of the same free speech rule u want to use too hoist that flag. almost reminds me of vietnam where soldiers
There are a lot of races that get offended by symbols, mascots, flags, and statues. for example the natives are offended by the team mascot ‘’The washington redskins”, and another example is the confederate flag, there are a lot of southerners have the confederate flag on mostly everything they own, it is offensive to all the African-Americans in the whole U.S because for them when people owns the confederate flag that means they agree with slavery. From the article “Confederate battle flag: Separating the myths from facts.” says that “The racist massacre in a South Carolina church has tipped the balance in a decades-old battle
