Other characteristic that was perceived effective by the student was kind, even though kind can include general meaning but the students perceived that kind personality is very important for the teacher. This was accordance with study conducted by the Demirel & Saraç-Süzer in Arikan et.al (2008) stated that effective English teachers among which possessing positive personal characteristics. Possessing positive characteristic, that is kind will make the students free to conceive their ideas. Even though being kind is general but if the students meet the teacher at first meeting and they felt that teacher was good, they would say that the teacher was kind. But some others perceived that memorizing the vocabulary is ineffective. The reason why the students perceived that memorizing the vocabulary is effective is because it was applied for the students in elementary level or for the younger ones like for elementary students (pupils). While the ones who perceived that memorizing vocabulary is ineffective is when it is applied in the upper level of age like for senior high school students. For the junior high school students, it will be impressive and easy to memorize the vocabulary if the English teacher assigning them to do certain activities based on the topic or real life situation. Conclusions By knowing the characteristics of effective English teacher based on the students’ perception, the English teachers are expected to follow and pay attention on those characteristics that can make them effective in teaching English. On the other hand, the English teachers are expected to avoid the characteristics that can categorize them into ineffective English teachers. Being an effective English teacher is expected by all teachers, but they have to put some efforts to reach it in order to conduct the teaching appropriately that the students can obtained the goal of their
