Giving back is a way most show love to others. To volunteer means to freely take part in giving back to a community or person. Volunteering can range from helping someone with groceries to building a house for a family in need. Although most volunteer work benefits the person receiving help, there are many unexpected benefits that the volunteer experiences as well. Even though most do not expect these benefits, volunteering allows others to make new friends, explore career paths and provide mental and physical health.
To volunteer is to donate a person’s time, labor, and talent to causes in the community and in return improving the community’s quality of life. When a person volunteers it could be for several different reasons. It could be for the satisfaction from achieving an accomplishment, to gaining leadership skills, to getting to know a community, to learning something new, to making new friends, to keeping busy, or simply because they were asked to. Many different people volunteer for many different reason some do it for the health aspect and others for the pure joy of it. Whatever that person 's reasoning is, there are some serious benefits of volunteering.
Dedicating time to volunteering can one practice social skills with others (“Helping People, Changing Lives”). Volunteering can help volunteers meet new people and create new connections with others who share a common interest. Volunteering can also strengthen connections to one’s community. Communicating with like-minded people performing the same activity can help form new bonds and friendships. A person who is shy has the chance to develop or strengthen his or her social skills as he or she, and others, communicate with those with which they may share something in common.
When people choose activities based on their interest they will volunteer at several organizations. They get fulfillment and happiness from their service. People will continue to volunteer and work to their ability. They are more willing to assist and do what's needed from them as a volunteer. Volunteers may feel as if they are part of the organization.
Therefore, joining the volunteer activities, you have the opportunity to help people who have difficult circumstances. Promoting your role for community. - Understand the power of unity, the meaning of life. Thus, you have optimistic lifestyle. Rectifying your lifestyle, more appreciate your life.
Perspective – working with others can help us re-examine and reflect on our own lives. Happiness: According to professor Stephen Post, a part of our brain lights up when we help others, then doles out dopamine and possibly serotonin. Some people feel more serene, others more warm and trusting. Career benefits – if the skills match a person 's career, volunteering can boost their resume. A lot of volunteering also entails hidden but valued skills such as leadership, teamwork, and good, empathetic communication.
If I was to become an RA, I would like to build connections with both my residents and my fellow Resident Assistants by holding events and working to build a diverse, caring community. I think connection can have a big effect on the RA staff as connection leads to better teamwork and collaboration, meaning the RA staff would work together more cohesively and thus make the experience of the residents more enjoyable. Building connections with and between your residents can have a very positive effect, as not only will they have a support system in place, they will also have a safe place to find friends, learn about differences among people, and find their place within the Geneseo community. Connection, in my opinion, can significantly improve one's experience in the residence hall and the Geneseo community at

Athletics may give you more self-esteem because you get encouragement, a healthier body, and more confidence. In getting all of this, you think more positively of yourself which is amazing for your mental health. Sports can also positively affect your social health. Being involved in a individual or team sports can help you improve your social skills immensely. When playing with a team you develop amazing, forever lasting friendships by meeting new people and becoming closer with them.
However, there are more reasons than these that will cause someone to be motivated to volunteer. People will choose to volunteer for many ways, whether it be to have the opportunity to help that certain cause they believe in, to enhance or alter their career that needs some form of change, to improve their mental health, or for the social benefits it creates for them in their community. People that have the drive to help something or someone other than themselves will have that opportunity through different acts of volunteering. As the author states in Restoring Nature, “Volunteer stewardship programs give people the opportunity to take tangible action to help their local environment” (Gobster 275). Some citizens feel very strongly about how the environment should be treated and cared for but are unaware of how they could possibly do anything to benefit the cause.
