Adolescents do not select enough fresh fruit and vegetables at school and are resistant to didactic nutrition lessons. Retail grocery chains have successfully used enhanced lighting to direct consumer choice. We will determine whether we demonstrate the same effect in middle-school cafeterias. A small inexpensive change that increases healthy food selection may reduce adolescent obesity. Each cafeteria is different. Placement of fixtures, food safety codes, electrical circuitry, matching of schools, and school cooperation all affected installation. Eating a healthy diet helps children stay alert during class, fight off illnesses, and grow into strong, healthy adults. School children get up to half the food they need each day at school, which makes schools an important place for learning healthy eating habits. School food policies help schools provide children with foods and drinks that are part of a healthy diet.

It is generally an integral part of children 's social lives from elementary school all the way into college. Why is the cafeteria so important? Every year, more and more food is wasted and school lunches because nobody thinks they are good anymore. The quality of food goes down, less students eat, and more wish they could go and eat somewhere, anywhere, else. If schools were to add off-campus lunches, however, that would all improve. While off-campus lunches may promote unsupervised behavior, going off campus for lunches is a viable option because it is cheaper for the school, cheaper for the students, and makes sure everyone will eat.
For all the cuts that have been made to school foods, six percent has not been a big decrease. School lunches don’t provide any nutritional value for the kids. The purpose for a school lunch is to provide kids with a dependable lunch that has good proportional amounts and nutrition value. The obesity rates need to drop higher and faster in the next ten years if they want to make cuts out of our meals and the meals need to be proportioned to size.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.

In the newspaper article, “No Lunch Left Behind,” by Alice Waters and Katrina Heron, the authors inform the audience, “But food distributed by the National School Lunch Program contains some of the same ingredients found in fast food and the resulting meals routinely fail to meet basic nutritional standards. Yet this is how the government continues to ‘help’ feed millions of American schoolchildren, a great many of them from low-income households”(4). Waters and Heron argue school programs provide unhealthy food on a daily basis, which accustom the students to not having a choice, yet to eat it and not starve. Students may not realize that the food being served is technically as bad as going to a junk food restaurant. The fast food industry is constantly improving everything to get people to come back and order the “new,” that will benefit them in many ways.
Corcoran theorizes that “[s]tudents who eat regular, healthy meals are less likely to be tired, are more attentive in class, and retain more information” (4). Furthermore, Anderson assures that “when schools serve calorie-rich food on test day, students perform better on tests.” (4). Determining the healthiness of food being served to students during school lunches is a very important subject. Although eating healthy is important it should not be the only factor contributing to whether or not taking away students favorite school lunches is beneficial. I don't believe that it is a good idea to take away students favorite school lunches and replacing them with all healthy foods is a good idea because of these three reasons. One, the cost of the healthier food, two, the student environment and mood of the school, and three, the fairness to the students whose only meal is the lunch they receive at school.
The principal is trying to change school lunch menu's to healthier meals. I strongly believe that this is a good idea to change the lunches because of the following reasons: healthier meals makes kids grow big and strong, it gives you more energy to move around, and it taste delicious. Schools all around should consider changing their lunches for the better of their student. This is for the better of the student to have healthy food. I will go into greater detail in the following paragraphs.

Food is essential. It is clearly a necessity for life, and because of this, how we view our food is just as important as what it is that we are eating. Some say that ignorance is bliss and sometimes that may be true, but with knowledge comes wisdom. Therefore, knowing the risks of the things we eat, and what we may be able to change to adjust to healthier eating habits is information everyone should have, including parents and or legal guardians for their sakes, as well as their children’s.
Effects of Having First Lunch Over Second Lunch is a time where for thirty minutes everyone settles down to eat and laugh with their friends In many high schools, such as Mountain Pointe High School, there are two lunches to accommodate the student body because one lunch would be too crowded and large. There is first lunch, which is also called fourth lunch because it occurs after third period and then there is second lunch, also called fifth lunch because it is after fourth period. Both lunches have their benefits, but the ones from first lunch can have a tremendous impact. In general, the effects of first lunch instead of second can greatly improve the quality of life for a student.
If a school has unhealthy lunch, the kids might be happy for the time, but their life won’t be happy in the future when they grow up to be obese. All of this information proves that schools are a lot healthier now and they should keep it this way for many years to come. This healthy food also gives kids enough energy to get through the day. If they eat unhealthy lunches they won't have enough energy to make it through the day so they won't learn as much as they could if they eat healthy school lunches. In some schools some principals superintendents have made a decision to opt out of the Healthy choice foods and make there own semi-healthy foods that kids like. To reduce waste and bring back students who have opted to pack a lunch or go off campus for fast food, his districts cafeterias have installed stir-fry stations with abundant vegetables so students can have meals made to order. and he’s added spice bars so kids can even the bland. In schools some principals and administrators are starting to take action.
In the year 2010, President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle Obama created the “Hunger-Free Kids Act” of 2010, which has created problems among students. In the year 2012, Michelle Obama also created the “Let’s Move Campaign” in order to reduce childhood obesity, and to give students access to healthy food in their school lunches. The “Hunger-Free Kids Act” means that no student should go hungry, and the “Let’s Move Campaign” makes the lunches healthier. Unfortunately, due to the quality and quantity of the meals that the students now receive, more kids are refusing to eat school lunches, and remain hungry during school hours. Not only does this outrage students, it also infuriates parents, teachers and staff as well.
