Hero: “a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities” (Merriam-Webster) Evident in many classic stories, the hero is always the character that makes the justifiable choice. Their role as the hero is never questioned. The hero always prevails, and in the end, the hero accomplishes the journey with greater wisdom, knowledge, and reestablished views of the world that compensates for the horrors they encounter along the journey.
Someone who is courageous, intelligent and has reached a significant achievement is called a hero. A man named Andrew Carnegie, born in Scotland in 1835, does not fit this definition of hero. Carnegie started off as a poor man who developed into a very successful businessman. He had intelligent business skills, including vertical integration which made him a rich man. However, his success does not define him as a hero.

Heroism in "Harrison Bergeron" The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a hero as someone "admired for achievements and noble qualities". The story "Harrison Bergeron" has no hero. Though some characters do display small glimpses of hero-like qualities, they either have a dishonorable past or do something in the moment that prevents them from maintaining a hero status through the story. For them, admiration is unattainable; they have no integrity.
Mahdi Jaber Mrs. Schwartz British Literature Dec 5 2015 Heroes “Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Gandhi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity (Martin).” Respectively, anyone can be a hero but heroes are classified as people with aspects including Faith, loyalty, modesty, courtesy, honor, and bravery. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines a hero as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts of fine qualities.”
Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.

Hero: A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities; however, heroism is not synonymous with perfection. Man can be a hero in spite of having some flaws. This is apparent in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, a story about the Salem Witch Trials in which Abigail Williams accuses dozens of innocent people of witchcraft. Despite being flawed, John Proctor, Reverend Hale, and Elizabeth Proctor can demonstrate their heroism in The Crucible. John Proctor is shown to be both a hero and a flawed man in regards to his lechery.
The Heroes that People Love Novalis, a famous poet, once said, “Nothing is given to man on earth - struggle is built into the nature of life, and conflict is possible - the hero is the man who lets no obstacle prevent him from pursuing the values he has chosen.” By denotation, a hero exists as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Two people have earned that title and these people are Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games Trilogy and Odysseus from Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. While Odysseus might be the first person that comes to mind when people think of heroes, Katniss deserves that title more than him.
A hero is someone who has done something out of the ordinary that has achieved greatness and praise to him as well as great help to his people. A hero for him is to be celebrated most likely because he has brought a great wave of joy to his people. Heroes often sacrifice their own personal concerns for a greater good. There are modern day heroes as well as ancient ones.
What qualifies a person to be called a hero? Officially a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Most people think of a superhero, like Batman or Spiderman, or someone closer to them such as their mother or their life-saving doctor. Heroes tend to be the main character in a story. Beowulf and Odysseus are two famous epic heroes in the texts Beowulf and The Odyssey.
One could argue that Shahrazad from The Thousand and One Nights should be considered a hero for many reasons. From the surface, Shahrazad is noble and wealthy because of her father’s position as advisor to the king, she is identifiable and human, she is selfless by working for the greater good of the community, and she is brave for sacrificing herself to try and end the King’s reign of terror. King Shahrayar would sleep with a new woman each night and order her to be killed the following day. This system was slowly depleting the town of young, available women. Shahrazad wanted to end this horrid cycle, so she devised a plan to tell the King a story every night, and she would leave the story off on a cliff hanger.
