Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a computer-guided radiation delivery system used to treat tumors that are difficult to reach or resect.
Using Technology to Target Mesothelioma
IMRT uses advanced software to target a tumor with an exact radiation dose based on the tumor’s size, shape and location in the body. IMRT enables physicians to focus higher radiation doses directly to the tumor while minimizing doses to surrounding normal tissue.
Benefits of IMRT
· More radiation where it is needed
With IMRT a radiation oncologist can precisely target a tumor with higher radiation doses than traditional radiation therapy delivery methods. IMRT minimizes radiation exposure to healthy tissues, leading to fewer side effects like treatment toxicity.
· New treatment options for patients

For the patient, this means fewer side effects. However, IMRT does require slightly longer daily treatment times. It also requires further preparation and planning and safety checks than traditional radiation therapy.
How is IMRT used to Treat Mesothelioma?
In mesothelioma, radiation therapy can be used after surgery to try and eradicate any small tumors that couldn’t be viewed and resected during surgery. This is called adjuvant radiation therapy.
Radiation therapy and IMRT can also be used on a palliative basis to ease the symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. These include shortness of breath, pain, bleeding and trouble swallowing.
IMRT often requires multiple treatment sessions. When determining the total number of IMRT sessions, several factors come into focus. These include the type, location and size of the tumor, the patient’s health and potential doses to nearby critical areas. On average, patients attend IMRT sessions five days a week for five to eight
P1 Explain the issues organisations must consider when planning computer systems maintenance The issues that organisations must consider when planning a computer system are as follow; Employee and Employer Responsibilities - It is the Cortex’s’ responsibility to make sure the employee is allowed to have scheduled breaks when they require them. As part of their contract they also have to provide the employee with the correct ergonomic equipment so they can do their job and work efficiently, this means that the employee is more effective and reliable when working from their desk as they have the correct equipment. Employees also have a responsibility this is making sure they use the business network entirely for work related purposes and not for downloading anything that infringes the contractual agreement they have in place this is known as the Acceptable Usage Policy. Cortex is also protected by the Computer Misuse Act.

Comparison of three alternative bolus materials to Superflab in providing the maximum dose buildup (Dmax) Many superficial tumors are treated using 6 Megavoltage (MV) photons, but often require a bolus to bring the depth of maximum dose closer to the skin surface. A bolus may also be used to compensate for uneven skin surfaces or irregular contours in the patient. The depth of maximum equilibrium describes the depth in which the maximum dose of the formulated radiation is deposited (Washington & Leaver, 2010). Bolus material should be flexible, pliable, and tissue-equivalent.

Many would argue that the fact that since such precautions must be taken to prevent patients and to monitor radiation levels of employees shows that there is a very real risk factor for radiation caused cancer. The efforts shows that employees are using ALARA and are being precautionary and using help to aid in no extra or unnecessary exposure to themselves or to the
Participation in the MD Anderson 1st Year Medical Student Program would provide a research based experience that would catalyze my goals for the future. Investigations with results that could prove practical towards my patients at the bedside are of great interest to me. This has sparked my attention towards translational medicine as a promising area of investigation. I believe the field of radiomics in particular has tremendous potential for clinical applications in direct patient care, especially in the field of oncology.
Too much exposure to ionizing radiation can damage the tissues. Children, young women and fetus are more sensitive to this type of radiation than others (Fahey, 2012). • Maintaining the Highest Level of Safety with NM Workers in nuclear medicine should follow safety rules. While working with radioactive materials, personal protective equipment like gloves, protective eye wear and cloths and in some cases fume hoods must be used. NM procedures must be practiced in special closed places.
Deep Venous Thrombosis Prophylaxis; Lovenox vs Heparin On June 30, 2011, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) presented their final ruling on non-payment policies for provider preventable conditions (PPCs). One of the other provider preventable conditions includes the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prophylaxis in any health care setting (Federal Register, 2011, p. 32817). Due to the significant cost of providing care for preventable conditions that are now not reimbursed through the CMS and many health insurance companies, hospitals around the country have implemented new policies to ensure patients remain free of venous blood clots during their hospital stay. The practice of injecting either Lovenox or heparin
The objectives of the specific department are to have an open relationship amongst technologists, nurses, and radiologists as well as to have knowledge of the individual procedures as equipment to ensure proper patient care and safety. This ensures that patients are not only safe physically but the technologist know the effects of radiation and know the proper steps to minimize those and the nurses also know the proper protocols to ensure adequate comfort but to also have the knowledge and skills to handle an emergency situation. A2. Describe three leadership practices of the current primary leader of the existing organization.
Radiation therapy is often used with chemotherapy and is performed before an operation. Radiation therapy is helpful for people with bone cancer that cannot be removed with surgery. It can also be used after surgery to kill off any remaining cancer cells(Bone Cancer - Symptoms and causes). In conclusion, bone cancer is a serious disease that has many different types, variants, and treatment options.
Having long term radiation effects can make the cancer spread, causing another cancer. Or, a couple years (or many years) later a new form of cancer can appear. This happens because of the radiation damage to healthy tissue, and doctors say the risk of this happening is smaller but possible. If you are hit with radiation in the brain, it’s considered long term because you will never be the same. Damage to the brain occurs when struck with 5,000 rems of radiation or higher.
Chapter 1- Introduction The importance of Advances in technology is of the utmost importance, not only to improve quality in imaging systems in the radiology department but to improve quality of life. As radiographers working in a constantly busy environment we sometimes tend to forget we are tending to patients that are extremely sick or even the basic concept of us administering radiation to patients in order to achieve a certain image. Throughout the years, advances have been made possible where there are such great advantages for everyone involved: patients, Radiographers, Radiologists, referring physicians, etc. “Any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to magic.” –Arthur C. Clarke I found that this quote was very appropriate
