The united states is full of immigrants. A American is either an immigrant or has someone in their family who were one. A great period of immigration occurred during the 1800s on to the 1920s when two waves of immigrants came to American shores from Europe. Old immigrants arrived in the mid-1800s mostly coming from Northwestern Europe. Also the New Immigrants arrived a little later mostly traveling from Europe. Most immigrants shifted to escape problems in their native countries and in search of new opponents in America. Many Americans welcomed immigrants as an asset to other Americans. Old immigrants had affected the new immigrants so they could things harder with each other.

Robert F. Kennedy once said that “Our attitude towards immigration reflects our faith in the American ideal. We have always believed it possible for men and women who start at the bottom to rise as far as the talent and energy allow. For decades, immigration has been a problem for the United States. Due to the people traveling from their native lands to the United States seeking a better life for themselves, and more primarily for the family that has come with them. Immigration is the action of settling into a country of which one is not native. Despite the many legal immigrants not every immigrant enters the country with legal documents and most of these illegal immigrants are poor and uneducated. Some undocumented immigrants commit crimes such as drug smuggling, or terrorism. Our policies on illegal immigration can diminish the problem by enforcing immigration laws, revoking birthright autonomy, and demanding proof of citizenship when applying for social services. Immigration has become a major problem in this country and needs to be restricted.

Under the traditional law, asylum was recognised as the right of the state to be conferred, in its discretion, and individual could only request for it and if granted enjoy it. Unfortunately, all the efforts to ensure right of asylum to every person fearing persecution have been forestalled by states. How would you feel if you and your family were denied the opportunity to a better life or had to wait years for one? We should work towards building human connections, not walls. Our future president will have the power to implement an immigration policy and make decisions that will effect the immigrants who currently reside within our borders. As a woman, I believe that my rights should not be determined by some man in Washington DC. Instead, everyone should be entitled to their own opinion. Abortions and contraceptives are not procedures or medications that women usually advertise and frankly, it is none of government’s business what women choose to do with their own bodies. Immigration is not always happiness, rags to riches, and the American dream. Major immigration periods happened from 1607, 1820-1870 and again in the early 1900’s. Immigrant numbers were growing so exponentially that the National origins Act of 1921 and 1924 was enacted to put a quota limit that blatantly discriminated against immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe. Immigrants that made it in faced many hardships such as learning new languages, abandoning family, and accepting the American values. But the perilous, extensive uprooting may not have been worth it in the long haul. While moving to America proved itself worthy for those escaping persecution and tyranny, it caused problems in the long run for others due to the isolation and poverty.

DACA is the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. It was formed on November 25, 2002.” By our former President Barack Obama . It is an “American immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the country illegally as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit.” With DACA certain children of immigrants also known as “DREAMERS” get to stay in the United States without being deported until they reach that age of seventeen without having to get a green card or a work permit. The new generation of children in our country are the dreamers and we must protect them. Our current President Donald Trump. As of recently our President's administration, as our country's leaders had decided to end DACA. This decision puts all of the dreamers at risk of deportation.

Immigration has always been a major part of American history. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people travel to the United States in search of a better life. Of the 1.49 million immigrants who traveled to the United States in 2016, 150,400 immigrants were from Mexico. There have also been many people from Mexico who have immigrated illegally to America, with 5.6 million Mexican unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S. in 2015 and 2016. The large scale of immigration, both legal and illegal, has brought up issues such as national security and the U.S. economy. The U.S. Senate is struggling to find a viable solution; they can’t seem to come up with a plan on how to deal with immigration that appeases both sides of the political spectrum.
