“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are merely players,” (Shakespeare), meaning the whole world is like a stage show and humans are the actors. The quote proves that life can imitate art even when it’s not recognized, art is everywhere you look, in places you never thought to look. Theater is represented in any imaginable way, so why is it not good enough for a simple required subject in school? Fine arts such as drama, dance, and art programs get cut from high schools due to the expenses that go into them. People say theater is not needed for the future, no help in the “real world”, and it’s not a life skill.
Students can easily mistake Shakespeare for boredom, with an average of about twenty thousand words in a play all put into indecipherable speeches (Johnson). However, Shakespeare has the opposite effect on the brain and world. Often debate has broken out concerning the integration of Shakespeare in an English class. While some think Shakespeare has no purpose in learning and applying the English language, others accept the fact that Shakespeare utilizes nearly all aspects of the English language into a deceptive play. Another debate Shakespeare incensed questions the age and class that Shakespeare should be incorporated in.
Not only sports teach students valuable lessons. Other extracurriculars, like drama, teaches students life lessons. Drama requires intense concentration as sports and classes do, and also helps teach students skills. As stated by Sam Smith, “Drama, like sports, requires a concentration equal to anything in the classroom. Like sports, functioning within a group is critical.
Millions of parents and athletes across the country have encountered the issue of playing time when it comes to high school sports. Each one of them is oblivious to the fact that playing time is decided by ability. Not by the coach. Innings, playing time, minutes, games- It is called many different things, however, they all mean the same thing- how hard the athlete is willing to work towards the sport and whether they show it.
Without Musical theater in a child's life, the world be totally different. We live in a world where Musical Theater is a part of all of us, even if some don’t fully understand this yet. “How lucky we are to be alive right now” is something Musical theater taught me. People can learn so much from performing arts. Musical Theater programs for children are important because they provide opportunities for children realize if they have a passion for Musical Theater.
Although it is evident that students most likely need more than a high school diploma to realize success in their future careers, there are plenty of other options besides the traditional college route. There are technical schools for all types of skills and trades, as well as work programs, military service, and other programs. “The original role of school counselors was to guide students in making decisions about which curriculum - academic or vocational -they would select” (Herr, 2013, p. 279). It is important to explore all avenues of interest with students, even starting as early as middle school. Many technical and trade programs can begin in high school and students can take advantage of the opportunity to learn what interests them before they find themselves in their senior year of high school applying to colleges they may have no interest in attending.
As a director, I believe all these theories are useful to learn so that I can have as many options of working as possible. Also in the theatre world, it will be helpful to know these so when other artists talk about how they were trained and other uses of style I can fully understand that. Side note, I did a rasabox workshop in high school and I thought it was such an amazing tool.
For first and second year my class had to act out King Lear and Much Ado About Nothing respectively. As an actress in both plays I could now relate to some of the things that went on them. Even though parts of the play still made no sense to me, stepping into the shoes of the characters helped in understanding some key concepts and actions that they took. Consequently, anytime I undertook a project in literature I try to visualize each scene and not only read it just for the sake of reading it. In this way, I gain a deeper understanding of it.

Romeo and Juliet is as you know very challenging to read and follow along too but in my opinion this is what helps high school students develop good reading. If a student is capable to read along to a shakespeare play fluently with only minor mistakes and errors then they would be most fully capable to read a standard high school english book that is much more simpler then something like Romeo and Juliet. They baby you and the teachers don 't really care about teaching. In his article he talks about the teachers having tenure and how you can tell they have it. I agree with him because when I was in high school most of my teachers had tenure and they would always make comments saying, “I don’t really care if you learn the material I have tenure.” Or they think they can say insulting things to students because of it.
The Globe Theater was a very well-known and entertaining theater where many famous plays were shown which were written by many famous writers including Shakespeare. The theater had a very unique structure, one that you would not find today.
