Summary “iPhone 6S Plus in short supply due to production issues,” is the title of my chosen article as of September, 2015. On 9th of September, Apple has revealed its next-generation iPhones which includes the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S Plus. According to Apple, demand has been great for the new models, particularly the iPhone 6S Plus with an estimation of 1.5 million to 2 million units for sale on its launch day. Unfortunately, consumers seeking to purchase the iPhone 6S Plus on its 25th September launch day may experience difficulty buying one. The title says it all, iPhone 6S Plus has been limited its availability as its backlight module, a component that supplies light to the screen , is facing production problems. This has led to limited supply of the iPhone 6S on its launch day and delayed shipping for preorders of the new products. Furthermore, Apple has stated its concern for this issue as the limited supply may potentially drive smartphone consumers to contemplate other alternatives. To resolve this matter, Apple has transferred its module production orders to a supplier named Radiant whom has worked with Apple previously.

In the case of iPhone 6 and 6S, these products are considered luxurious goods, with price ranging from $ 549 - $ 649. Luxuries tend to have an elastic demand as people are more price sensitive towards it because they are not necessities and have several substitutes. Nonetheless, this has not always been the case as iPhones are starting to be regarded as necessities for loyal consumers of the Apple brand and this may override consumers’ responsiveness to price changes.
