In the story, "The Lady or the Tiger?," I believe that the princess chose the door with the tiger behind it due to her jealousy of the beautiful princess. She is selfish, and doesn't want anyone else having her man. Also, her father does not approve of her relationship with her lover anyway, for he is not a prince.
The princess is self-centered, like her father. They are both very passionate and caring, but tend to put themselves first over everything. When her father found out about her lover and his trial was set, she somehow found a way to know behind which door the princes and the tiger would come out. It was only when she found out that the princess behind one of the doors was one of the most beautiful in the land, that her hatred began to set in.

When he had entered the arena, there were behind gasps and sighs, for he was so handsome, and I don't think anyone wanted to see him be mauled by the tiger. He took a glance up at the princess, and knew that she knew behind which door stood the lady or the tiger. The time came to choose, and, his eyes fixed on the princess, he mouthed, "Which?" The princess had no time to hesitate. She quickly raised her right arm so that no one else in the arena except her lover had seen. Beyond that point, who knows if he chose the lady or the tiger...
So, that's why I believe the princess let her lover choose the door with the tiger behind it. She let her hated for the beautiful woman get the best of her. Her conceited-ness caused her to tell him the door that the tiger was behind, just so no one else could have him. The princess also could not go against her father's rules, so she was forced to stop seeing him. The thought of him being with another princess was too overwhelming, which furthered her decision to let him get
