Kabupaten Subang is a district in the northern area of West Java, which is consisting administrative regions of of 30 sub-districts and 253 villages. It has about 1.477.483 inhabitants which 746,148 of them are males and 731,335 of them are females. The area of Subang covers around 205,276.95 hectares or 6,34% of the total area of the West Java province. The population density of Subang is about 714 people per km2.

The area includes Jalancagak sub-district, Ciater district, Kasomalang district, Sagalaherang district, Serangpanjang district, and some areas of Jalancagak and Tanjungsiang district. The middle area of Subang district has an altitude between 0‐50 m above sea level, which covers the total area of 92,639.7 hectares or almost half of the total area of Subang. The area includes Pagaden district, Cipunagara district, Compreng district, Ciasem district, Pusakanagara district, Pusakajaya district, Pamanukan district, Sukasari district, Legonkulon district, Blanakan district, Patokbeusi district, Tambakdahan district, and some part of the West Pagaden district. Meanwhile, the middle or the center area of Subang district has an altitude between 50‐500 m above sea level, which covers the total area of 71,502.16 hectares, around one-third of the total area of Subang district. In more northern area of Subang, people even communicate more in mix language with specific accent of Dermayan, or Javanese language with Cirebon dialect. The origin of Subang can be found on the story of folklore and history of traditional community of Subang. The derivation of the name Subang has various views.

The first view of Subang history, originated from the the name a woman which is found in the chronicle of Siliwangi named Subanglarang or Subangkarancang. The story goes back to the history of Padjadjaran Kingdom. In the history of Java, it is documented that in the area Karawang –near Subang- there is an Islamic boarding school, led by Sheik Datuk Quro. A woman named Subanglarang or Subangkarancang is a daughter of Ki Damajan Jati. At that time she learnt at the school of Sheik Datuk Quro until Raden Pamanahrasa or famously known as Prabu Siliwangi, the King of Padjadjaran asked her to marry.
