My Dream to Serve Ever since I was little, I have always admired people who served our country. I still remember all of the stories that my mother would tell about her career in the military. I didn’t understand it as much as I do now, but I was still admired at what she would tell. During my middle school years, I would occasionally read books and articles about the military, and what they would do during their everyday lives. It would make me feel like I had a purpose in life, and it would make me feel better about myself, and that is when I decided to have a dream about going into the Air Force. As long as I could remember, my mother would always tell me stories about how her life was in the U.S. Navy. She would tell me stories …show more content…
Ever since I was little, I was diagnosed with asthma, which is a disease that causes inflation to the lungs which could cause severe wheezing and pain in the lungs, especially during exercising. With asthma, my chances of going into the military is almost slim to none because the military does not allow people with asthma to go into the military, unless they somehow pass their physical. On top of that, at the age of ten, I had an epileptic seizure due to a severe head trauma that I had earlier that day. Due to this catastrophe, I had to stay the night in the hospital, and when I was in the hospital bed, I realized that my life could be taken at any time. This was when I really started thinking and dreaming about going into the Air Force, even though this seizure could also lower my chances of going into the Air Force. On the contrary, some rough stages that I had has influenced me to chase this dream. For years, me and my family has had some money issues. It became so bad, that after we paid all of the bills, we would have only a few dollars left. This has also inspired me to go into the military when I get older so I could give back to my family so they won’t have to be scared of paying the bills anymore. I have a lot of challenges that I am still going through, but I would try to reach my dream, no matter what it would
As a person goes through life he or she may wonder “Who am I?” and “What is my purpose?” The objective of this paper is to allow me to reflect and critically analyze who I am as a person. In this paper, I will discuss my social location and identity, my life experiences and my privileges and disadvantages.
This was to steer us away from all the negativity and bad habits that my cousins where involved in. At seventeen, with my parent’s permission, I enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. I served fourteen years of active duty service from 2001-2015. During this time, I completed three combat deployments, two to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. My primary occupational skill was an Ammunition Chief.
A sergeant opened the door to our tent and commanded us to go to dinner. We were marched over to eat. This had been the most intense couple days of my life. It changed everything and all I knew from home was gone.
I felt, I needed to help and inspire my community to stand up against injustice, but I needed to redefined myself through the military and college. The military helped me established a foundation of ownership, which lead me in enrolling in my local community college where I was enlighten about activism and entered numerous organizations to be involved in service.
My dad works for the Air Force, making me a military brat. I have been in places such as Washington, D.C. and Oklahoma City because of his job. Every time I had to leave behind friends, family, and everything I knew to be home. Every move I have gone through has taken me cross-country to places that I thought I wouldn’t enjoy.
Attending college and studying to become a nurse has higher possibilities for me to do the things I want in life. College is a great time for students and a great way to receive a higher education instead of being in the acts of war when I’m only 20 years of age. I love helping my peers, family members, and strangers, it’s a passion that I have and want to pursue with nursing. Joining the army I would have to take into mind that in war I will have to kill foreign enemies who try to attack me or my fellow soldiers. The act of killing a person is can be terrifying to me and many individuals.
As I am getting ready to begin my college years, my experience in America is getting richer every day. I have realized how much opportunities I have being an American citizen and living in this part of the world compared to the life i lived in Togo and I intend to make the most of it. I’m working toward my goals and one of them is to join the military. I always have the desire of serving people and I believe serving in the Military is one way to show my gratitude to my new country and its
My father had made some bad business deals and lost all of the family's money. When I was two years old, my dad went to debtor's prison. A few years later my dad went to the West Indies and never returned. Becoming a soldier, since my family didn't have any money, I saw the military as a great way to get a free education and to have a career. I entered the West Point Military Academy at the age of 18 and graduated in 1829 near the top of the class.
Initially, I had a few friends attend the academy and they have all told me that it was challenging, but it was a great experience. However, it was my father who first introduced me the Naval Academy and guided me onto the right path for which
I want to be like Chris Kyle because of his perseverance, dedication, and determination. I learned that all the branches of the military work together. I also learned that the branches of the military request for a certain position and then they get what is available no matter the branch. Also, I learned that soldiers get stars for their work in combat. Another thing that I learned was that soldiers pack a lot for deployment unlike what I thought that they packed hardly anything due to the circumstances of having a lot of people coming at one time.
From the moment I was born I was considered a military brat, I was born in Hawaii at tripler hospital because my mom was in the army and stationed there, my biological father was in the marines. When my mom remarried when I was 7, she married a man who was in the Navy. Everyone thinks being a Military brat just means you know more than other people because you 've been more places and seen more things and you get a lot of stuff you want. This is not true at all. Coming from a military background means you never have stability, you are held to a higher standard than all the other kids, and sometimes it makes you want to be in the military and only focus on that.
However, that changed very quickly after joining the Navy. The Navy's primary mission is to defend and deter aggression around the world. This is accomplished primarily by traveling abroad. Consequently, I would get the chance to go all over the world and experience new cultures. Because of the Navy, I had the pleasure of visiting Cebu, Philippines.
Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I always had a dream of joining the military. Though it was a choice, I still did not have any inside information of what it would be like, and the requirements and specifics of the Army. It wasn't until 2005 when I decided to join the United States Army that all my concerns and questions were answered by a recruit; and I was guided through the whole process to enter and prep for the Army. If it was not for the confidences and motivation of my recruiter back in 2005, I might have not made my leap and probably would not be in this uniform today. Becoming a member of the United States Army recruiting team means having a physical and mental toughness in order to perform efficiently.
Joining the military was a much-needed event. Before joining the military, I would stay out late at night with my friends and I really did not know what I wanted to do next with my life. This was of course something that I needed to change because I needed to have some idea of what I wanted. On September 11, 2001 while I was at school, I arrived to my second class of the day where the teacher was watching the September 11 attacks as they were happening live on TV. I was shocked at what was happening!
With the end of highschool and the start of life in the real world looming before me, I am forced to stop and wonder and ponder things such as, am I ready for this, and what the heck am I going to do now and finally where did all that time go. At first when I was looking at life after college I was kind of caught between the choices of either going to college or joining the Armed forces, but, after I sit and ponder for a little while I realize that hey I shouldn’t stress so hard for I could do both first joining the United States Air Force Special Operations and then through the military apply for college which they would pay for. So after I settled that migraine I continued the process and so I could ease my gray hairs I’ve already started on my application process.
