Obi-wan Kenobi is a christ figure according to the criteria on page 119. Obi-wan had a confrontation with the dark side, Anakin tried to lure him, just as Jesus had a confrontation with the devil. This jedi master is also very forgiving as Jesus was, Obi-wan forgave Anakin for turning to the dark side and wanted him to come back to the light side. He had disciples such as Anakin before he turned and Luke Skywalker, like Jesus had disciples and ones that weren’t all equally devoted. When confronting Anakin, Obi-wan sacrifices himself to Anakin and is killed but spiritually resurrects in the wilderness when Luke Skywalker needs him. This is similar to how Jesus sacrificed himself and resurrected on the third day. Obi-wan has many matches for
A christ figure will often perform actions that are considered miracles by those around him. The film Cool Hand Luke focuses on the titular character, Luke, a prisoner who refuses to conform to life in prison. Luke performs miracles on more than one occasion throughout the film. The first instance is when he fights fellow prisoner Dragline. Dragline continuously knocks Luke down, but he keeps standing up for more.
Then after he is killed by Darth Vader, Yoda becomes his new master guiding Luke on the more spiritual side of the force (Star). Even though Obi-Wan was killed, he still guides Luke from the spirit world (Davis). Luke proves himself on and off the battlefield. He has near death fights with Darth Vader and helps the Rebellion in more large scale fights. Also the original Death Star is destroyed by Luke.
For instance, Luke fought against the Empire and destroyed the Death Star. He also seeks to stop injustice. He follows the code in the movie when he joined the Rebels and fought against the Empire. In fact, the Empire was committing many cruel acts. Secondly, Luke portrays himself as a hero with a good moral character.
Throughout the different films, Luke goes through different situations that help show his different personality traits and emotions. He shows Luke as a hero when he becomes a Jedi and how he is affected by love when he is involved in a love triangle involving himself, Han Solo and Leia. Lucas also shows him as a world redeemer of sorts, even though Anakin was the real chosen one who was supposed to be the world redeemer, not Luke. By using these archetypes, George Lucas helps us see characters in different
During a hot and rainy night, Luke randomly decides to bet everyone that he can eat fifty eggs….in one hour. Amazingly enough, Luke completes this small miracle, though not easily. One thing to notice though, there were 50 prisoners in the camp at the time and Luke ate 50 eggs, by eating the eggs, he absolves the prisoners of their individual sins. And if that’s not symbolism enough for you, immediately after having eaten the eggs, Luke is shown as sprawled on the table, arms straight out, legs crossed, EXACTLY like the crucifixion of Jesus
In the movie Star Wars Luke Skywalker meets his two sidekicks named CP3O and R2D2. CP3O and R2D2 come from a space shuttle, with the princess named Leia, who is trying to save planets from the Deathstar. The Deathstar is the evil force headed by Darth Vader. CP3PO and R2D2 escape from the Deathstar and land on the planet where Luke is and the three team up and go out and explore. They meet Obi-Wan Kenobi, leader of “The Force” which was extinct, Obi-Wan becomes Luke's mentor and helps him save Princess Leia and become a Jedi, sadly Obi-Wan meets his old enemy Darth Vader and is
After trying to fix a jam in the R2-D2 system. Luke accidentally triggers a hologram message from Princess Leia and says the famous line “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.” C3-PO describes they have been on many missions with rebellion. Luke is very intrigued but he says he doesn't know any Obi- wan Kenobi. Luke says this “I don’t know anyone named Obi-wan but old Ben lives out beyond Dune Sea.
If we dig thoroughly on Christianity, it is told that Jesus didn’t really had to be crucified, with his overwhelming powers. He sacrificed himself for humanity’s sins. Going back to Simon, he is very selfless in countless ways, such as picking fruit for the littluns [“...pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands.” Ch.3] and
Luke was also trained by Obi-wan. He taught him everything he knew and prepared him so he would not turn to the dark side of the force like his father and sense the force with feelings. By Obi-Wans guidance, Luke fulfilled the prophecy instead of Anakin. Both Anakin and Luke became powerful Jedi because they were trained by
Jesus is a figure that many authors use in their novels. By using characters that resemble him, they author is able to relate to the reader in context of hope and redemption, as well as to expand one’s thoughts on what exactly the concept of sacrifice entails. Obviously, there are many other ideologies in the world and Christianity, though popular, sometimes follows with some kind of negative connotation that would lead authors not to use Christ as a guide to a character. Foster addresses this conflict, saying, “we live in Christian culture… Culture is so influenced by its dominant religious systems that whether a writer adheres to the beliefs of not, the values and principles of those religions will inevitably inform the literary work” (Foster 124-125).
Seemingly, both men are simply following the wishes of the divine. Jesus has been sent down to Earth by the Lord to “save his people from their sins” [Matthew 1: 21]. His entire life is devoted to spreading the word of God, and he is ultimately crucified so that all have the opportunity to live in the Kingdom of God. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is constantly giving thanks to the Lord and reminding those around him that the miracles that are being performed are done so out of God’s grace.
In literature Christ figures are often used literary technique. A Christ figure is a martyr who sacrifices themselves for the betterment of those around him. In the novels A Separate Peace, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and the movie Cool Hand Luke, Phineas, Mcmurphy, and Luke are all prime examples of Christ figures. The novel A Separate Peace follows the story of best friends, Gene and Phineas.
Obi Wan Kenobi teaches Luke the ways of the Jedi, along with telling him how the force is within him and every living thing. The Force is a Jedi's source of energy, therefore it fits into the Mana archetype. Similar to a Buddhist monk, Obi-Wan
Throughout his gospel, Jesus is depicted essentially as a humanitarian and a teacher. It shows him in the light that he helped the poor, aided the sick and ill and taught in a more philosophical way. It is also important to note that Luke took a rather more mindful way to writing his gospel because he was writing to a more educated audience (particularly throughout Greece). In view of the fact that he was addressing a more knowledgeable society, there were a lot more political and cultural concerns present throughout his gospel.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus Christ tries to omit the witnessed accounts in raising the dead but in the Gospel of John; he exposes his true power for the masses to recognize. Turning water into wine is another example of Jesus exposing his true self in public. The last passage that 's shows Jesus knows his position in the work of God is John 8:15-17 "You judge by human standards; I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is valid; for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me." The cleansing of the temple passage also shows God is his father and Jesus will do anything in his power to protect the family.
