Participation in sports bring more than just physical benefits to the table. As of 2014, about 35 million adolescents (5-18 years old), participated in youth sports in the United States. Getting your kids into sports at the right age is important for them to understand, and eventually excel at that sport. Ages 2-5 years old is a good time to get your kids involved in unstructured free play, but if they want to join a team then don’t discourage it. Some examples of unstructured free play include riding a bike, playing tag, playing on the playground, and many more things. Ages 6-9 is when you should start them in organized activities. Football, gymnastics, tennis, and many more are examples of organized sports. Then ages 10 and up is when your child is ready to start complex skill sports. Some complex skill sports would be hockey, lacrosse, rugby, and many more. In the United States, basketball is the most popular sport among both girls and boys. Your health is not something to mess with so taking it seriously is very important. Sports are an easy and cheap way to maintain good health and strengthen your body as well as your immune system.
