At my physician office, the staff always dress and act professionally. I have been going to my physician since I was 6, I have even job shadowed my physician. I do not recall a time my physician or his staff has ever been unprofessional. They are always dressed in scrubs or business casual. As a clinician, I take more responsibilities of accepting errors and consequences and self-correct without taking in a negative manner or revenge. The physical therapy code of ethics has impacted my career of being more aware in preventing liabilities, such as performing activities beyond the scope of my practice. I have been at Udall since preschool. I currently play volleyball, run track, participate in organizations such as FCCLA, FBLA, SADD, NHS Treasurer, and Student Council President. I am employed at JAG Gymnastics in Andover, where I teach and help girls learn to do gymnastics. My sister and I had physical therapy when we were injured, and it helped us both significantly. I will be attending Cowley County Community College for my first two years, then transferring to Emporia State University to pursue my career as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
The many that stick out in my mind are responsibility and accountability, leadership, honor and integrity, respect, caring and compassion, communication and a thirst for knowledge. All of these attributes pertain equally to the professional work environment, as well as a student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree Program. An “old soul” best epitomizes my unique character. Before leaving biology lab on December 6, I had the honor of interviewing the graduate assistant-teaching for biology 211 lab. During the interview I learned a lot of things about the teaching assistant like her background information and education. Her name is Lauren L and she is a graduate student at Iowa State University. Lauren has worked at Iowa State University for five semesters as a teaching assistant for biology 211 lab. She chose the teaching profession because she truly wants to teach and get some experience teaching undergraduates.
During the summer, I had an eagerness to find a job; I wanted to keep myself occupied, so I applied everywhere, not concerning myself of the job description. I even applied for a janitorial positions; the thought of money was in my head. After applying to multiple jobs, I finally got accepted into American Swim Academy. I thought the job required a lifeguard, but little did I know, I had applied to be a swim instructor; I applied to a numerous job positions that I forgot what I applied for. They had assigned me classes with the skill levels of the child; I had to basically teach kids to swim.
Ever since high school, I knew I wanted to work in the pathology field. I thought I wanted to be a pathologist. I talked to the career counselors at my school and expressed my interest. Fortunately for me, I was contacted not much after about an internship at Montefiore Medical Center. I would come to learn that Montefiore Medical Center is the teaching hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Making a difference I started my health care career as a nursing assistant at the young age of 16 years-old perusing the dream of one day becoming a nurse. At that time, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and what it meant to be in the health care. I have been able to touch and impact so many different people’s lives throughout the last 6 years from patients and residents to their family members. Sometimes not even realizing that I was changing someone’s life. Although I’ve helped hundreds of people there is one person that will I will always remember.

In the late 1940s, the association had changed its name to the American Physical Therapy Association.
