The goal of physical therapists are to help the joints of the patient to move better and to restore or increase flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance. Healthwise (2015) said that physical therapy is a type of treatment needed when health problems make it hard for a person to move around, do everyday tasks

Different physical therapy clinics utilize physical therapist assistants in different ways. In some clinics, the physical therapist assistants do the bulk of the patient's treatment, in others they fill in when the physical therapist is out of the clinic or their schedule is already full. Regardless of the clinic style, as a physical therapist assistant my daily life will consist of aiding patients through their rehabilitation process while working under the supervision and direction of a physical therapist. It will be my job to follow the plan of care that was created by the physical therapist and ensure that each patient is doing the prescribed exercises accurately. I will also need to accurately report the progress of each patient to the

Physical therapist use methods like massage therapy, heat treatments, and exercise. Physical therapy teaches clients how to manage and prevent certain conditions, and helps achieve long term health benefits. Literature Review Physical therapy is the practice of healing various injuries with exercises instead of drugs. People have to attend physical therapy for various reasons, such as after facing a stroke, after a surgery, or if someone is experiencing pain anywhere in their body. From the International Association for the Study of Pain, pain can be defined as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, unique to every individual, associated with actual or potential tissue damage” (Keefe, 2017). Many reports have shown that over 100 million Americans suffer from persistent pain, (Keefe, 2017). These people who are experiencing pain must be referred to a physical therapist’s office.
This reveals the effectiveness of therapists as they prepare athletes for their training and performances. The runners in New York have physical issues and physical improvement that need to be made before they go out and perform. They go to physical therapists to increase their chance to meet their full potential for the race. Muscle imbalances, joint trouble, sprains, and range of motion are the fixes that can make the difference in the race. Therapists know what each of their clients have to do to fix their personal physical problems, they are specialists, not generic clinic workers.
Being an athlete or trying to maintain a healthy body weight requires knowledge of how the body works. Injuries are common for athletes, and those injuries require treatment. These are just a couple of things that require an Athletic Trainer. This scholar will give insight into their career goals and a further overview of the Athletic Trainer profession and why they are so very important to, not only athletes, but to anyone who may need help recovering from injury and learn how to prevent injury in the future. Overview of Athletic Training Athletic Trainers are responsible for preventing, diagnosing, and treating muscle and bone injuries and illnesses that athletes may face (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2008).
However, I want to do more I want to be able to follow the process from beginning to end and do the evaluations. I want to be able to do the testing and the measuring. I have set out on this journey of health care because I want to help people go from post-operative to back to fully functioning with realistic goals in place. I want to be able to walk the journey with the patients and let them know that they are not on it alone. Through Physical Therapy I feel that patients get more than just rehabilitation of an injury or surgery but they get a change in mindset from injured to functioning independently again as they did before.
I have used these assessments daily as a rehabilitation/geriatric nurse. These assessments are valuable to use for patients who might have compromise circulatory problems. This includes orthopaedic patients, medical history of PVD and DVT, and non-healing wounds. Peripheral pulses are hard to find in patients who are sick and dehydrated. I use the Doppler to find the pulses in the foot or ankles because they can be difficult sometimes in patients with circulatory problems.
Career in Athletic Training Athletic trainers are highly qualified health professionals who are trained in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. (“Explore Health Careers” 2015) Usually when you hear Athletic Trainer, you may think that all they do is sit around and wrap ankles. But there is actually more to this job, including an abundance of responsibilities. I am interested in pursuing a career in athletic training because i get to help athletes recover, and/or prevent injury so that they can continue to enjoy the game. Becoming an athletic trainer comes with many responsibilities.
“Ow! My knee! I think I need to go see a physical therapist.” This is an example of one of the many reasons people go to see a certified physical therapist. “Physical Therapists, sometimes called PTs, help injured or ill people improve their movement and manage their pain” (Bureau 1).
