My eyes were closed. I could not move, but I could hear everything. Doctors were yelling and frantically scurrying all around me. I could hear the shouting of medicines and dosages as doctors pushed fluids into my IV. Suddenly, everything went blank, and that 's all I remember from my first hospitalization.
Thanking the Sir, I grab my glass and sit down to relax but find myself in a slight state of paranoia. A muffled scream is heard and I see some silhouettes dragging a figure towards a room. Thinking nothing of it, I return to peace taking slow sips of my drink. That peace is broken as I feel two strong men grab me, and someone else covers my mouth with some sort of fabric. Before I can even struggle, I feel my heart ache in pain and my body gives up drifting into a state of sleep.
Once again, freezing darkness was carrying me in its hand. This time, I was hearing a breath so rough and powerful than the wind of the 1400s. Fear can sometimes make us want to die when you feel that we are in danger because it means two things: either you die and you don’t fear anymore, either you are saved but in that case, you are condemned to fear again and again until your last breath. That was the situation I was put into.
Darkness. That was all I saw when I awoke. Where I laid was absent of all heat, sending multiple shivers down my spine. I tried to move, but it proved to be unsuccessful, for I could barely move a finger. I had no memory.
My eyes shot open and I looked aroud. I saw nothing but darkness. I took a deep, shaky breath. I was in no condition to defend myself. I crept around the corner.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t fight the seizure. I realize it’s inevitable as I feel my soul lurch out of my body. Now, instead of floating and soaring, I wait. I watch my dad, as his eyes fill with despair. He began to cry; this was rare, in my life I have seldom witnessed my dad cry, but now tears flowed down his cheeks like a river.
The rest of the day was spent in solitary. That night I did manage to get what some would call sleep, but it was far from pleasant. At first, all I could see was a thick veil of darkness. Then I began hearing crying in the distance, like a lost soul adrift in the abyss of darkness. Then it cut off abruptly, only a suspended echo remaining.
After floating around for a while I get tired so I bed down in a pile of leaves. I go to bed back to the inky blackness that is sleep. A sharp pain pierces my side (which I thought ghost could not feel pain) which makes me wince and turn to see
Sleep is a patch of death, but three in the morn, full wide-eyed staring, is living death!... The moon rolls by to look at you down there, with its idiot face. It 's a long way back to sunset, a far way on to dawn…”(58). Not only is ones present life affected by bring held back, however, it can also be affected the people
This strange phenomenon happens often, and the term for it is “sleep paralysis.” according to Penn State University, their research shows that it happens more often in students and psychiatric patients (University Park,2011). III. So, what exactly is sleep paralysis?
Nearly 19 years ago, my Dad suffered a severe heart attack. The family was summoned to the emergency room. There we met with the surgeons, and were informed his condition was grim and he was not likely to survive the night. They advised if he did recover, he was likely to have suffered brain damage due to lack of oxygen. After the initial shock, for an unexplained reason, I felt at peace.
As I laid down to sleep I felt the same fear I did when I was younger and felt vulnerable to the evils of the world; I didn’t care though. I let those fears envelop me and pick at my brain. Laid out and still I was, ignoring the malice of the world sitting on my back, choking the innocence out of me. Eventually, I fell asleep and was saved by my dreams. My innocence was broken.
The darkness was the only thing standing between him and me, but then my brilliant plan suddenly went wrong. The man leaped out of bed and pushed me back into the armoire. There was a CRACK where my head came in contact with the corner of the armoire. All I could see then was more darkness. After I came to my senses, there was just more darkness shielding my eyes, not allowing me to leave.
Can you remember the last dream you had? Maybe you could fly or were falling down an endless dark tunnel. Perhaps you were awakened by a horrific dream in the middle of the night. They are usually accompanied by muscle spasms and twitches of the entire body. Although these dreams occur while we are falling asleep, they interpret a completely different meaning.
The Old Polish Foxtrot (English coursework, draft) The air was thin, the dark shadows of the room were quailing towards me. I wasn't scared though. For they were my own demons haunting my shaken past of which I couldn't quite remember and there was very little I could do but wait.
