Imagine walking through a humane society or dog shelter and seeing the many dogs without homes. Abuse, neglect, surrendering, and running stray have led them to the shelters they now call their homes. Seeing those sad puppy dog eyes looking through the cages at potential owners breaks one can not help but feel sad for the dogs. Not only are millions of dogs homeless, cats and kittens are as well. To make matters worse, many of these animals will never make it out of the shelter. Many will be euthanized to make space for other homeless animals that need a place to stay. According to the Humane Society of Central Texas, 7.6 million animals enter shelters each year and of those 7.6 million, 2.7 million will be euthanized. Humane societies and shelters have become quite populated as people relinquish their animals for their own reasoning, strays, and animals in abusive situations. This is becoming an issue because instead of keeping the animals until they find homes, they euthanize over crowded shelters to allow more animals to come in. What is the point of this? What if those animals who were brought in do not find homes and they then are euthanized as well? The fact of the matter is healthy and available pets are being euthanized simply to make space and it is not right. It is a different story when an animal is euthanized at their family veterinarian’s office because of old age or an incurable sickness. But why must healthy and adoptable animals be put to death? So, the question now is how do individuals control this euthanasia
