Every year hundreds of wild, exotic animals are killed, primarily in Africa, for money, bragging rights, and even decoration. Big game trophy hunting is a booming business, but has sparked a worldwide debate, especially after the killing of Cecil the Lion. Trophy hunters claim they are helping conservation efforts, but in reality, they are harming them. This sport is damaging the overall population of a species, especially lions, rhinos, and elephants. Also, the overall revenue from big game hunting is a small amount, and only a small percent of that goes to help the community. Although some countries have banned trophy hunting, they continue to allow “canned hunting” in which animals are bred to be hunted.Big game hunting takes a turn for the worse when it becomes canned hunting, or when it can be linked to poaching. People all over the world are voicing their opinion on the sport, legal or illegal. Big game trophy hunting is an unethical game, and this sport should be banned in more countries.
Hunting has been a part of our society since the first man set foot on this continent, but animal rights movements have become popular in our society recently that has questioned the necessity of hunting in our modern times. Because of this, animal populations are left freely to where they can multiply at an alarming rate. Hunting is a great means of controlling animal populations’ growth, although greatly opposed by many. While hunting is a very controversial topic in our society, there are great points for being for and against it.
If the world today gave up hunting, wildlife would become non existent and animals would struggle to thrive due to disease and overpopulation. Outdoorsmen also gain plentiful amount of experience while hunting. They gain relationships, knowledge of the outdoors, and they maintain an old tradition and keep it alive and thriving. In the future hunting may become an even more pressing and controversial subject; however, we must do everything in our power to keep hunting alive. Hunting has a deeper meaning to some people and to take that away from them is in some ways inhumane.
What is big game hunting? There are around 20,000 to 35,000 wild lions left in Africa, depending on whom you ask, and big game hunters legally kill around 600 each year. This is a lost in population by two to three percent. Is big game hunting legal? Hunting is a well known sport. According to some, big game hunting is business for the wealthy, yet others believe it may actually provide benefits to the human, and animal population.
Hunting is also bad for the environment in many ways. Over hunting is bad for the environment because it can make the species go extinct. In the past, humans had over hunted or they have hunted for sport and wiped out many animals. “Trophy hunters, however, who kill purely for the sake of acquiring prestigious evidence that they have killed an animal, surely act immorally, because they achieve a trivial benefit for themselves at the expense of the life of an animal” (“Environmental Ethics and Trophy Hunting- Ethics & the Environment”). This happened in Africa when elephants were hunted as a trophy for ivory tusks that were worth a lot of money and the elephant population was almost extinct.
In the last couple of years, the issue regarding big game hunting has received more recognition since the killing of Cecil the lion in 2015. Despite the controversy concerning the use of legal paperwork by Walter Palmer, the individual who killed the lion, the killing of the exotic animal itself caused a major spark in the ethicality of trophy hunting. “The killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe in July 2015 reignited the debate over big game hunting” (Big Game). When looking at big game hunting from an ethical point of view, it is more beneficial than opposers realize. There are many controversies surrounding the dispute of the legality involving big game hunting, most educated hunters know that big game hunting actually helps, not hurts, the
Before heading out the door for your first hunt, these are a few tips for you to keep in mind. You might even want to take a safety course for hunters prior to heading into the woods. While you might have an experienced buddy with you, he might not remember what it was like to be a beginner, which could be a problem for you.
In the film, "Louis Theroux's African Hunting Party", South African wild game farmers advocate trophy hunting as a necessary activity for saving certain species from inevitable extinction due to illegal wildlife poaching. However, when considering Peter Singer's utilitarian theory on the ethical treatment of non-human animals, the process of shooting and killing an animal to preserve its species seems counterintuitive. Applying Singer's perspective, my position is that trophy hunting is morally unacceptable as it reasserts speciesism by disregarding the suffering of the animals being murdered for sport. Indeed, the act of purchasing a hunting permit so that a person may kill an animal for its material value dismisses the animal's personhood.
Have you ever thought about which animals are near extinction or endangerment ? Have you looked them up? How many are left? Which ones have been removed? Do you know why they are going endangered? Have you heard what a dodo is? Well yeah it’s extinct. Do you know why? Do you know why it’s important to save an endangered animal?
Imagine you live in a world where there are no plants, forest, animals, or oceans all there is in where these things us to be is concrete, landfills of garbage, and buildings. This is what will transpire if we do not protect or wildlife, wildlife conservation is a very important situation as it helps keeps plants and animals off the endangered list. According to the World Wild Life organization there are twenty-six endangered animals and twenty-one critically endangered animals this is very overwhelming as animals are an important part of our environment and ecosystem. With human population increasing at an alarming rate, with the growing rate of humans there is going to be less land for animals and plants, more man-made pollution and plastic debris will go into the oceans, lakes, and streams.
Predators are like robbers of their prey’s life. Once one is caught, predators never let go. While some may argue that being in a zoo will affect an animal’s hunting skills, it’s not always the best plan to let endangered animals free in the wild. It stands to reason that society should continue keeping our animals safe from danger in
Animals are being abused everyday and they are not taken into consideration when you see them being abused. They are suffering and they are being abused everyday and you all need to stop it. Animal cruelty is not something that just goes away the person doing it will keep doing it until someone stops them. Everyone needs to stop animal abuse and if everyone starts to make a difference others will to. Animals need help with this and everyone needs to help them. Animals all over the world are being abused every single day most of them will not make it to see tomorrow or have the love of a family they desire.
Thesis Not just for our health but also for animal’s welfare, we need to be aware about what procedures animals are passing by and how they are being treated. Many of the most fatal sicknesses that affect humans can be prevented if we involve more in those harsh procedures that they suffer and try to look for new solutions to make it stop. Introduction Many times we are not even aware that our cold actions are not just affecting the defenseless animals but ourselves, our country, our economy. We don’t even think of how those actions are affecting the rest of the population, we just care about selling products and making money.
