A Phenomenological approach in architecture is using a physical design in order to form experiential architectural space. This design is created carefully, using space management, materiality, light and shadow to create an unforgettable encounter through making an influence on the human senses. This theory encourages the mixing of a physical observation as a key of a building form. This generates an experience that is beyond tangible, but fairly abstract, observed and superficial. This theory was carried out and mainly used by Alberto Perez-Gomez, Peter Zumthor and Steven Holl; they are best known for using this theory in all of their designs.
Peter zumthor is a Swiss architect who was born on the 26th of April 1943.He was inspired by nature

It is a hotel and spa which combines a comprehensive sensual experience designed by Peter Zumthor. He designed the spa which was first opened in 1996 to pre-date the existing hotel complex which was completely built in 2015. The idea was to make the inside of the spa feel like a cave using its structure. He used the idea of a natural environment around the bath rooms which lay under a grass roof structure partially concealed into the hillside. The Therme Vals is built from layers added on top of one another made of locally extracted Valser Quarzite slabs. This particular stone started the specific inspiration for the design and was used with boundless pride and …show more content…
The mixture of light and shadows, open and confined areas and straight foundations made for extremely authentic and healing experience. The main casual layout of the space inside is a cautiously designed walk way which leads bathers to specific programmed areas. However, it also allows the people to discover different areas for themselves. The perspective views of the whole spa are continuously controlled, which either allows the people to see a specific view or blocks them from seeing any type of view on specific areas.
His designs affected the architecture around the world. A building which follows the same type of perspective on its design was inspired and made to replicate the idea of a different world seen out of the windows similar to Peter Zumthor’s creations. The building is called stage of forest by the META- project architecture firm leaded by Shuo Wang, Jing Zhang. The building is located in Fengman, Jilin China and the project was finished in
He concurred under the condition that I shall never take advantage of the stone unless most severe maladies necessitate its use. I was present while the Gnome king created the stone. The creation was accomplished by using water-soluble salts and crystalline dust in an unconventional distillery apparatus. To a casual observer, the process may appear simple, but the various oscillations of rays that emanated from the Gnome king into the
Dale piece the Persian ceiling is a beautiful piece the bright colors and the unusually shaped objects are just breath taking some pieces where flattened out and many of the shapes resemble jellyfish and other sea animals and it’s so amazing because it’s all glass nothing else. The glass used in the Persian are small, dense, and rare core-formed vessels that appeared during 1500B.C. in Egypt and again in 1300B.C. in Mesopotamia. Another pieces that I admire is the sculpture honoring Harriet Wyche. The sculpture is made of rose-colored Polyvitro, a material that Chihuly Studio creates by casting a special formula of polymer resins and dyes using molds formed from large “chunks” of glass. The Polyvitro elements are crystal-like in shape, and individual masses are attached to a central armature of powerful-coated, exterior-grade stainless steel to create a tower that is over eight feet tall.
The carving was made from sandstone and took mostly likely a stone or rock was used to chisel the details of the
The Architectural Fantasy by Hubert Robert is an oil painting created in 1802. For an architectural painting, is displays much emotion through the use of color, line, and light. The painting does not utilize a multitude of colors but still is able to provide an exciting scene. Although it does not appear to be that large in the gallery, the work would actually be prominent if it were a standalone piece. The artist’s use of perspective, light, and color give the overall composition a balanced look.
Are you visiting Rome? The city has many attractions. Vatican city, Colosseum, Stadio Olimpico, crusty thin pizza and many others. My personal favorite, and maybe the biggest attraction of them all is the Pantheon.

Bernard Maybeck Bernard Maybeck was an eclectic American architect of the late 19th and early 20th century. He was known for his ability to fuse and experiment with many different styles of architecture, creating a blend of modern and historicism in his buildings. First serving as a teacher and then as an architect he influenced and shaped the Bay Area as it grew. To begin with, Bernard Maybeck was born in the outskirts of New York to German immigrant parents. His father, being a carpenter wanted young Maybeck to draw and work with his hands.
Technologically, only men possessed the knowledge about the materials used and the techniques of manufacturing the stone axes. Women and children could use the axes, but were not allowed to make them. The stone axe had become an integral part of the society and was used for many activities, such as obtaining food, household purposes, building huts, cutting firewood etc. There was a certain area where the stones necessary for making these axes were found. This formed a chain of tradesmen throughout the country.
The Sun Stone can be found at the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City. It’s unique because it has become the emblem of the modern day Mexican culture. I like how detailed the actual artwork really is. It has an extremely old style to it,, and is made out of stone. Some of the unique things I noticed were the counterclockwise suns, the four cardinal directions, and the meanings behind each of the symbols written on the piece of art.
New designs have been adopted since the onset of architecture, and thus, with the concentration of a history of architecture, new phenomenon and innovations are realized that would help in further explanation and address of other necessities in the same sector. A concentration in the History of architecture and landscape architecture as a course incorporates more than one element of
Though this may seem as a simple objective, two main limitations stand in the way of achieving it. The first is the limited understanding of the human attachment/inclination towards nature. In spite of the growing body of research (Appleton, 1975; Kellert, 2005a; Heerwagen, 2005; Biederman & Vessel, 2006), still it is not clear why certain natural forms and settings arouse positive feelings in human beings. The second limitation is the difficulty of translating this limited -but growing- knowledge in architectural terms; form, form making principles, form language, structural systems…etc. (Alexander, 2001-2005; Salingaros & Bruce, 1999; Kellert,
Advertisement of a Doubletree Hotel by Hilton Berkeley Marina People are easily influenced by advertisements, especially if the advertiser is persuasive. Doubletree Hotel in California is one among the many ads which presumably will influence many people because of its attractiveness. The advertiser presents to the public the number of rooms, including the different facilities that will keep customers relaxed and comfortable. The audience targeted are those who love physical exercises, business people, families and individuals wishing to relax and have fun, tourist, and new visitors coming into the city. Generally speaking, the bedroom with all the furniture, the painting, and the carpet are attractive and
Gottfried Semper was a major figure in the field of Interior designing. He was an architect and an art critic who contributed majorly to the study of interiors .He proposed his ideas and thoughts in his book, “Four elements of architecture”, in the year 1952 and it was a huge success. In his book, he developed the theory that origin of architecture could be dated back to the primitive era when human civilization was at its peak. As compared to the modern ideology that architecture consists of structures made from materials, his theory revolved around the four main elements of the primitive era that were essential to human life.
Tectonics is defined as the science or art of construction, both in relation to use and artistic design. It refers not just to the activity of making the materially requisite construction that answers certain needs but rather to the activity that raises this construction as an art form. It is concerned with the modeling of material to bring the material into presence - from the physical into the meta-physical world (Maulden, 1986). Since tectonics is primarily concerned with the making of architecture in a modern world, its value is seen as being a partial strategy for an architecture rooted in time and place therefore beginning to bring poetry in construction. Tectonics, however, has the capacity to create depth-ness of context resulting in the implicit story being told by the tectonic expression.
In the architectural realm these nonvisual experiences become important in how our space is perceived, how it makes people feel and even perform. The scale of architecture in relation to the person, the sensation a hand feels while touching a handrail, or the sound a person makes on the building as they walk: all of these
