Phylum Cnidarian
a. Feeding
Cnidarians have only one opening called the gastrovascular cavity. This is where the food enters and the waste leaves. Cnidarians are hunters. They paralyze their prey before putting it in their mouth. To cut, and stick to their prey, Cnidarians use their nematocysts. Their Nematocysts contains toxic chemicals to kill whatever they are hunting, their prey.
b. Digestion
Digestion begins in the gastrovascualr cavity. This cavity is a digestive chamber. Digestion in this phylum occurs outside the cell, where the gastrovascualr cavity can begin absorbing the nutrients after the enzymes begin to break down the food material.
c. Reproduction
Sexual:
When Cnidrians sexually reproduce it takes place in external fertilization.
1. Cell Membrane - A cell membrane in a cell is like the turnstiles and gates of a baseball stadium. The cell membrane is selectively permeable and the turnstiles or gate only let people with a ticket into the stadium 2. Cell Wall - The cell wall in a cell is just like the support beams of a baseball stadium.
A hydrilla grows a long steam that has many leaves on it as well as tiny white flowers on them which float above the water. They are an aquatic plant which means they live in water such as clean water, including lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, and marshes. Seen mostly in the Southeast of Florida and in their habitat they form dense mats of vegetation, can grow with little light, and more efficent in taking nutrients than other species. Florida faces many problems within their water bodies and waterways. The aquatic plants pollute 96% of the public lakes and rivers.
Teeghan Guess Ms. Delong February 7, 2018 Practical Law Cyntoia Brown Cyntoia Brown, a sixteen year old accused of first degree murder has an interesting past, but does that justify her wrongdoing? Cyntoia’s biological mother had Cyntoia at sixteen and was no ready to be a mother. Her mom struggled with alcoholism, drug addiction, and even prostitution. So her mother gave Cyntoia to Ellenette Brown who would be Cyntoia’s adoptive mother. As Cyntoia got older she began to have control issues, became manipulative, and was very possessive of her adoptive mother Ellenette.
In recent readings about Cyntoia Brown, who according to Willingham, previously was a victim of human sex trafficking, is now serving a life sentence for murder. The source reports that Brown suffered from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, grew up in an abusive home and ran away from her adoptive parent’s house prior to becoming involved in prostitution in Nashville. She was staying with different people and using drugs and alcohol. As a runaway, she then met a 24-year-old pimp named "Cut Throat," who eventually began physically and sexually abusing her, and forced her into prostitution according to Willingham. The article states that on August 7, 2004, Brown testified she was solicited for sex by 43-year-old Johnny Mitchell Allan, who picked her up near a Sonic parking lot and drove her back to his house.
It’s a widely held myth that University of Florida entomologists introduced Plecia nearctica into Florida as means to control insect population however, love bugs, as this species is more commonly known as, actually migrated across the Gulf Coast from Mexico through human activities. Despite the humorous implications of the common name, given because of their ability to copulate while in flight for hours, it does not emphasize the controversy that surrounds its invasive appearance in the Southern states of America. These states found that the species was detrimental to the abiotic environment initially but as it turns out, with time, the species adapted to actually become helpful to the biotic environment. What was initially seen as a nuisance became an integral part of the agricultural ecosystem despite it being an unintended consequence through increased human activities. The ecological effects of Plecia nearctica start with its evolution and adaptation to the Southern states in America and
Due October 19th, 2015 Erin Gibbs: 200270053 Dr. Andrew Cameron Bio 222 Written Assignment 1 1. Health officials realized that the mysterious illness was not caused by a bacterium because the pathogen would be identified quickly in comparison to a virus, which is more complicated (CBC, 2013). 2. It was hard to identify the infectious agent because SARS presented as flu-like symptoms with a rapid onset and is similar to the common flu (CBC, 2013). People who had other underlying health problems made it difficult to identify symptoms of SARS because it made it hard to differentiate (CDC, 2013).
It is a good specimen to study due to its similarities and differences with vertebrates. I characteristic I share with this critter is a nerve chord. Chapter 6: 1: The three germ layers are ectotherm (forms the epidermis, nervous tissue, and sense organs),endotherm (forms gastrointestinal tract and lung muscle), the mesoderm (forms circulatory tissue, muscle and bone). 2: When the fertilized egg continues to divide and the inner cells develop into an embryo and the outer cells protect
Science 1. Free ears in dogs are controlled by dominant allele (F), and attached ears are controlled by the recessive allele (f). Diversity or being diverse is defined as the state or quality of being different (Collins). Diversity or being “different” is an accepted as a human right today—the ability to speak confidently of a differing opinion, for example. The state of being “different” can be obtained at an time through the progress of life—at any stage, that is, one can alter and/or learn immensely impacting his/her perceptive on a certain subjects. John Wyndham’s the Chrysalids introduces a community where being “different” is condemned, and follows a strict and limiting on living. Wyndham uses this novel to present the key idea that people deserve and should be his/her own individuals through conflict between David and society, development of characters—David Strorm, Aunt Harriet,
Chapter 16 of “The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate” is titled The Telephone Comes, and in this chapter the town of Fentress is introduced to a new device called the telephone. This quote can relate to the chapter because it refers to “species may be now increasing” meaning the generation was developing with new technology. The quotes means that even as the world develops, change is inevitable, and some changes can happen quicker than others. In this chapter, Granddaddy says “The days of the whale oil and coal dust are over.
There is only one cell which is able to survive in total of four cell which then develops into a female gametophyte. The pollination occurs in female gametophyte. Fertilization occurs after successful pollination in which one sperm cell will meet with the egg and will make a diploid embryo which will be surrounded by seed coat of tissue from the parent
Phylum Cnidaria have two body forms known as polyps, sessile or free-living, and medusas, free-swimming. Phylum Cnidaria also have no vascular system; thus, the gastrovascular cavity reaches all parts of the
When the organism moves, it produces a sinusoidal wave motion in the dorsal-ventral plane (Alberts et al., 2007). The food for this animal is taken up by a muscular pharynx and is then pumped into the intestine, which is made up of about 30 cells and is lined with microvilli (Wood, 1988). About seventy percent of the three hundred neurons of C elegans are located in the head (Wood, 1988). The nervous system also includes sensory receptors and ganglia, along with dorsal and ventral nerve cords. The sense organs, which include chemoreceptors and mechanoreceptors, are arranged in two concentric circles around the mouth (Wood,
The disposition of juvenile crime is based on the least detrimental alternative. One major issue in juvenile disposition is utilized in indeterminate sentencing. This allows the judge to set a maximum sentence for the juvenile. Many cases juveniles are monitored during their sentencing and are released only if the judge is satisfied that they have been rehabilitated or at least until the maximum sentence is served. Introduction
Sexual Selection in Reptiles Turtles, crocodilians, tuataras and squamates, which include the diverse forms of lizards and snakes, are included in the group called Reptilia (Townsend et al., 2004). They are ectoderms and their sexual behavior and mating characteristics have been widely studied and many theories and interesting features have been documented over the years (Martin, 1994; Shine 2003). According to Uller and Olsson (2008) the reptiles have a unique characteristic regarding their sexual selection and mating characteristics, called the post-copulatory sexual selection. There are two important aspects related to post copulatory sexual selection, they are Competition among sperms from different male donors Cryptic or in vivo female choice to decide which sperm will fertilize the egg
