What is Police Brutality? Police Brutality is the use of any force exceeding what is necessary to accomplish a lawful police purpose. It's history is undeniably long.(“Police Brutality”) Why do they mostly target blacks? I think they target blacks because they still view us as the minority of the country and they overuse their power.
One common opinion is that officers should not use more force than is necessary or reasonable, and even then, that force should be used only as a last resort. “Police use force to affect civilians’ conduct. On a day-to-day basis, they do so most often by employing the least degree of force available to them, their mere presence. Cops wear uniforms and drive distinctly marked cars so that, without saying a word, they may have an effect on citizens’ behavior” (Fyfe, 38). When an officer’s presence fails to fulfill the desired conduct, the next course of action for said officer would be verbalization.
Police Brutality is defined as being the abuse of power by the unwarrant finliction of excesscive usse of force, by an indivual that is involved in law enforcement, while in the emidst of performing their official duties. The term "excessive use of force" means a force that is well beyond what would be considered as being necessary in order to handle a situation. The term can also be abblied to abuses that havee been perpretrated by corrections professilas in state, federal, millitary and muncipal prisons. The word brutality has several different meanings. However, in the context of police brutality, it means savage or cruelty.
Police brutality are a big problem in todays society because you hear that law enforcement are killing and beating up on innocent people for no reason. Their is a major issue toward police brutality because they kill and beat up the weak instead of protecting the weak the law enforcement is there to protect people from bad people not there to kill and beat people who did nothing to nobody and accusing them for something they did not do to have a reason to kill people or beat people. Sometime police brutality can happen from that person race like on the news I saw a white police officer who had stop a black male in a car and the man had stop his car and got out his car and ran away he did not attack the police officer he was running away and
"Fatality at the hands of the police brutality has become so prevalent in today's society that one could argue it has become a societal norm. " Police brutality should not become the societies normal, if it has become that bad to even be considered the normal something drastically should be done to prevent that. In today's society, many unarmed African American boys and men are killed in the hands of the police. Many African American families are fearful of what could happen to the young boys and men in their family just for walking down the street or going into a store. Just last year alone more than 250 African Americans were killed in the hands of the police and many were unarmed.
It can be hard to prosecute a cop for these actions due to the constant state of threat a cop’s life is at while doing their job and the unpredictability of their job. An example of an case where the police’s use of force were questioned was the Wardlaw v. Pickett case. In this case a man named, William C. Wardlaw decided to sue the United States Deputy Marshals, William Pickett and Albert Crew. Wardlaw claimed that the two violated his constitutional rights by using excessive force on him and falsing arresting and prosecuting him.
Tupac’s poems were in response to police brutality and injustice. Causes of the LA Riots: Was sparked due to the unequal treatment of unarmed African Americans by LA police. There was a video released of 4 LA police officers beating an unarmed African-American motorist and the police officers were then acquitted. On March 3, 1991 Rodney King was brutally beaten by police officers for resisting arrests.
Within the criminal justice system, the police have three main goals: to serve, enforce the law, and to maintain order. Most police officers are people just trying to fulfill these goals and protect the citizens, using discretion wisely, but sometimes in this process, it may seem that there is an abuse of power, especially in terms of the use of force. As stated in Criminal Justice in America (2014), police are able to use legitimate force on those individuals that are deemed uncooperative, but this force is sometimes deemed excessive. Synthesis Research Paper Everyday growing up as a young black male we have a target on our back. Society was set out for black males not to succeed in life. I would always hear my dad talk about how police in his younger days would roam around the town looking for people to arrest or get into an altercation with. As a young boy growing up I couldn’t believe some of the things he said was happening. However as I got older I would frequently hear about someone getting killed by the police force.

It’s a topic that segregates communities and makes each other their enemy. Specifically, a white officer has been the enemy of the black community. Unfortunately, the tension between police and blacks grew over the past few decades.

So in simpler terms, police brutality is when a police officer uses more force then what they should use to stop a person or animal. There is some ways that we can help prevent police brutality, one of the ways we can help prevent it is by giving police better training in a nonviolent way. This is especially important when dealing with violent animals.
Law enforcement agents are should behave to a standard that is greater than the average civilian. Police brutality comes from an abuse of power granted to the police. Police brutality is often drawn on by overreaction in certain situations drawn on by panic. Police using excessive force in the United States is a crucial dilemma and must be stopped.
