While Traub’s personal tales bring intense emotion to the article, some may feel that it lacks some credibility due to the absence of outside opinion. As a result, this can weaken the ethos aspect of the persuasive argument. Another way that Traub’s heavy reliance on pathos can weaken his argument deals with the audience that he is speaking to. Because Traub often refers to sweet memories that involve old newspaper comic strips, he is specifically pleasing an audience that has spent some time of their life reading them.
All books that young adults read have power. Their power results in their ability to sway and to change the reader in so many ways, not the least of these is morally. These books can create a moral sense in the young by demonstrating what is morally right and what is morally wrong. They can raise and resolve ethical issues. The reader may not agree with each resolution, but is certainly forced to think about issues he or she may never have thought about before (Smith 63).

The film Boyz N the Hood is a story about life in South Central Los Angeles. The film was wrote and directed by John Singleton in 1991. I chose this movie because of its relevance to the course and how it reflects pop culture in that time period. The opening line in the movie “one out of every twenty-one Black American males will be murdered in their lifetime” really catches the audience attention. This movie goes into detail and shows the life of three young males living in the hood of Los Angeles battling a life surrounded by drugs, violence, and questions of race.
