Even people who do think they are overpaid still go to their movies, shows, performances, and games. These people may think they are overpaid, but are willing giving them money. The people have all the power over entertainers and professional athletes’ income. They decide how much these professional athletes and entertainers are paid. Professional athletes and entertainers can be denied health insurance because of how much money they make.
Why are people so worried about how much money a professional athlete makes? So many people are worried about how much money a professional athlete make, they say why doesn’t it go two someone in need or why don’t teachers make more money, they are teaching our future generation. Yes teachers may be teaching owner future, and yes there are servicemen putting their lives on the line, but these athletes aren’t regular athletes. Professional athletes have trained and sacrificed ever since they were little kids play youth sports to become who they are today. These athletes sacrifice their body’s day in and day out, they sacrifice time in the gym or on the field day in and day out instead of being with their families.
After researching this topic, my opinion is that college athletes should be paid. The NCAA makes millions of dollars every year, while some athletes can’t put food on the table. Athletes need to be paid for their services like they are working a job, and should be paid by the hour. If the NCAA paid every one of its athletes 200 dollars a week, it would still be a fraction of its revenue. A union must be formed by the athletes for equal pay across the sports, and unfair restrictions set upon athletes and not other students should be
In other words, they are saying that parents are spending a lot of money for their kids to play competitive sports when they only have a small chance of playing it at a professional level. Therefore, they wasted all their money for their kids to play a sport, when only about two percent of high school athletes win sports scholarships at NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) colleges. That is how the cost of competitive sports is harmful to
Professional athletes are extremely overpaid for the “jobs” that they do. They only entertain for a living and get paid millions of dollars per season. Each sport is different in how they pay their athletes, and the difference in salaries from one player to another can be in the tens of millions of dollars. These athletes are paid for jobs that they only do for a certain number of games and do not even play the games over the course of an entire year. In most professional sports, they play in games for only a few months and then have a few months off.
There is currently nothing systematically in place to provide funds to the sports athletes who generate so much for the universities, and the revenue continues to climb for the NCAA, as they claim a scholarship is sufficient enough even the playing field amongst universities and their athletes and stress that the uproar will change college sports forever. The public has seen the exploitation of these athletes and are asking questions regarding the legitimacy of the structure and are now demanding these athletes be compensated for there hard work. So as the money skyrockets for the NCAA, the athletes are left needing amendments to the power structure that has held them down for so long; in order to change this Congress must step in make sure
Pro athletes receive millions of dollars in a year compared to fifty years for the average American, and just for being really good at sports. These athletically gifted individuals are taking way too much money away from the hardworking citizens who deserve it. Athletic organizations across the United States such as the NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB, and the PGA were all created for one reason, and one reason only. To entertain. Each year, athletes
The NCAA says that they don’t want to pay college athletes because of their scholarships. As the money keeps flowing more and more each and every year, it comes with more arguments about the athletes getting the money that they deserve. Sounds as if college athletes are blindly signing a sheet of paper and the NCAA has an evil smirk saying “You have no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into”. A court case had also gone down about a young college athlete and a car dealership. The dealership was using the athletes to make more sales with his cars and was doing behind the athletes back without
Universities across the country are earning millions of dollars each year from their various athletic programs. Many college athletes face countless hardships because they face a magnitude of restrictions while attending college. Student athletes are risking their personal safety and putting their futures at risk for the benefits of the universities. Nevertheless, the only compensation they are allowed to receive is a scholarship that can only be warranted on a yearly basis. Everyone is reaping the benefits of the college athletic programs while the student athletes are the ones who are risking everything with no reward.
True, but to be a student athlete is a tough ‘job’ to manage with going from the field to the library day in and day out: “Players are essentially working full-time football jobs while going to school; they deserve to be paid more than a scholarship” (Gregory). A scholarship isn’t just enough for these hard-working players who get rewarded with nothing at the end of the day. They often get a scholarship with the package, but that doesn’t cover all the expenses that come with college. Think of a college game that people attend often. Think of the money they’ve spent on the ticket(s), the food, the drinks, and even some souvenirs.
People who say they should be paid are wrong because players would no longer be playing with the same passion and drive they possessed as kids, just a monthly paycheck. Finally if collegiate athletes were paid the NCAA would be no different from their professional
Do pro athletes get paid too much Are pro athletes get paid over the top. ‘’They make over 10 times the amount of an average person’’(Stein dan). ‘’People work harder than most athletes juggling jobs, children, and lower wages , and stress that comes with it all’’. ( Jamel e.m. cummins)’’People that go out and fight for this country get paid way less then these athletes’’ (Elizabeth). On the other side these athletes dedicated their whole lives to their dream , and deserve making a pretty high payroll.
In the same article Brian Frederick said “ Fans must understand that college sports is a big business”, and this is very true, but the reason it is such a big business is because of the athletes. If you take away the athletes from college sports you take away college sports and a multitude of money. “Players at top-tier schools such as Duke are worth up to $1 million each.” With a staggering number such as a worth of one million dollars each it is truly mind boggling that athletes do not get any type of
