Morphine for Medication
Morphine has been known as a drug, a devil people mustn’t interfere with, but they never think about its benefits as a medical treatment. There are so many painful health conditions that people face nowadays, such as cancer pain, a pain after a major surgery, a pain after major trauma or injury, or a heart attack. Morphine is a strong opioid painkiller that is used to treat those conditions to relieve the pain. Although morphine is addictive and can ruin a user’s health, it also has benefits as a medication. In the 18th century, Europe had a high demand for Chinese goods but the Chinese didn’t have a high demand for European goods. In order to pay back, Britain gave China the only commodity they would accept--silver, but they didn’t have enough silver. Though many people have no side effects or only minor ones, but some do have side effects. Morphine usually causes Gastrointestinal side effects, which is the feeling of sick (nausea), or vomiting, shallow breathing, dizziness, sleepiness, headache, or dry mouth (“Morphine for pain relief”; “Morphine Side Effects”). The higher doses may cause more chance to get a side effect. Heart problems, seizures, shallow breathing, muscle stiffness are the serious side effects that the user has to go to the hospital and tell the doctor if they get these side effects. It is possible to allergic to morphine. Babies, young children, or elderlies are most likely to get a side effect. It is not recommended to use morphine while pregnancy or breastfeeding. The babies could born with a morphine-addicted. However, women that have a severe pain before giving birth or during puerperium period, morphine may be the best choice to reduce the pain (“Morphine”).
