In any tragedy, the tragic hero is a great character with a tragic flaw and is destined for downfall, suffering, or defeat. The tragic hero conclusively can sometimes cause death upon himself due to his tragic flaw. Three main theories of the tragic hero are the Aristotelian model, the Shakespearean model, and the modern tragic hero. Each model has five defining characteristics, which are nobility, hamartia, downfall, anagnorisis, and suffering. More specifically, she was born in Vienna, Austria on November 2, 1755 (4). The 11th daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Francis I and the empress Maria Theresa, Marie Antoinette was brought up in a wealthy family and was said to be favorited by her parents (1). When she was younger, she enjoyed music and played the harp. Marie Antoinette, along with her brothers and sisters, would form musical groups and perform for her family (7). She lacked a good education because of the exclusion of women’s education during the time period. While her brothers studied more academically, Antoinette studied mostly religious and moral principles. She was taught French, but spoke it with a German accent, one of many things that would agitate the French later when she became queen. She was a beautiful child with blue eyes and blonde hair, and was described as charismatic and elegant (7). Marie Antoinette was pledged to marie Louis-Auguste of France in the hopes that they would create an alliance between Austria and France (4). They married in 1770 and 4 years later, Louis-Auguste became king and named Louis XVI (5). Marie Antoinette became the queen of France at only 19 years old. The personalities of the two rulers were very different: Louis XVI was quiet and shy while Marie Antoinette was
