Through hardship and triumph, Rosemarie Rossetti was able to see life in a different perspective. She demonstrated how to live life with conviction and motivated others to follow her lead. Not only does she give her audience strength, courage, and faith knowing anything is possible, she also gives life a different meaning. Individuals like Rossetti have convinced me that being different is a privilege. Having a different physical appearance, different background, or knowing a different language are all benefits when living in a diverse world. Unfortunately, many individuals who are perceived as different, overcome greater obstacles. Yet, we should not be afraid of these obstacles. Instead, they should be valued and learned from. Without adversity, we do not strive. That is why I believe adversity precedes growth. Adversity, defined as a difficulty or misfortune, plays a major role in shaping a person’s identity. For myself, it has taught me lessons. Being a first-generation college student, I have undergone challenges. Being able to afford college has not been an easy task for myself. My parents did not have the privilege to finish elementary school, therefore, I do not receive much financial support. During the start of my Nursing career, my mother was unhappy given the fact that I was going to study a difficult major. She was uncertain if I was going to be able to handle it.
