I agree with starting school a later time in the morning because it will benefit the students by functioning properly in school and it will prevents car accidents. On the other hand, other people disagree with my argument because they argued that kids need to go to bed earlier. My first reason why school should start at a later time, is that kid will perform and function better in school. Having to get up at 6am in the morning to get ready for school can be very stressful.
Starting school later can actually improve your learning, health and even your attitude and all of that can be changed by just starting school at 8:30AM. Kids don't start taking in information until 8:30AM because that is when the brain starts to really work. According to National sleep foundation ¨ teenagers are naturally inclined to stay up later and get up later in the morning.¨ ¨Starting school at 8:30 improves a student's chance of success,¨ according to the (National sleep foundation). Not only do teens want to sleep more, but sleeping more actually improves their health.
Students need about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later we would be able to sleep in longer which could increase our concentration in class. It will also improve your health if you get the right amount of sleep. Teenagers are in an important stage of their growth, which means that they should get all the sleep they need. We need at least 9-10 hours of sleep and it’s proven that only 15% of teenagers get the amount of sleep they need.

High schools should consider having the school day start and end later for their students because it could improve the health, safety, and the academic achievement of their students. Not getting enough sleep could eventually lead to sleep deprivation, which could deteriorate the health of students tremendously. Research shows that sleep deprivation could lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. By getting enough sleep it will increase student’s moods, and lower stress.
If schools started later, it would help students in many ways, like doing a better job in school. According to the study that Kyla L, Aarton T, and Rachel W did, “Greater sleep duration was associated with fewer reports of various mental health and substance use related issues and behaviors. For instance, for each additional hour of sleep reported, there was a 28% reduction in the adjusted odds of a participant reporting that he or she felt unhappy, sad, or depressed. ”(2) This shows that every extra hour that student slept, had a 28% chance less of the student having health issues.
A study of 9,000 students in eight Minnesota public high schools showed that after Minnesota pushed back their school start times by thirty minutes, grade point averages and standardized test scores improved (Brody). School attendance also increased with later start times (Boergers). Despite the benefits of having later start times for schools, many schools are resisting the change. Even though the AAP recommends a later start time for schools, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that only 14% of all middle schools and high schools follow the 8:30 a.m.

Sleeping Schools Countless students all over the US struggle to keep their eyes open throughout the day because school classes start too early in the morning. If we were able to give an hour to students in the morning, we would see an increase in their physical mentality, their academic skill level, and an overall happier lifestyle.
