“Becoming a Vegetarian” reports that people become vegetarians for many reasons, including health and religious convictions. Some people follow a largely vegetarian diet because they can’t afford to eat meat. Approximately six to eight million adults in the United States eat no meat, fish, or poultry. People say that nowadays, plant-based eating is recognized as not only nutritionally sufficient but also as a way to reduce the risk for many chronic illnesses. Becoming a vegetarian won’t necessarily be good for you. A diet of soda, cheese pizza, and candy is technically having a vegetarian diet. Eating too many calories even from nutritious, low-fat, plant-based foods can cause someone to gain weight. A Mediterranean eating pattern is known to …show more content…
Coming from a study, vegetarians can appear to have a lower quality of life, but they can also be more physically active. Whether people like it or not, humans are omnivores and it shows in our teeth, our teeth are most for grinding up veggies and shredding up meat. Vegetarians are vegetarians though, there are not enough recourses to provide meat for 9 million people. Some peoples’ digestive system can squeeze out every last nutrient. Vegetarians don’t usually need as much food as most people. ProCon reports that there are many pros and cons to becoming a vegetarian. Every year in the United a total of 35 million cows, 115 million pigs, and about 9 million birds die each year so that us, humans can eat them. Vegetarians think that meat-eaters are harming the world by killing all these animals, but in reality, vegetarians are harming the world too because they are killing all these plants. Humans have been eating meat for over 2.3 million years and the world has been fine. Vegetarianism could help world hunger. 10 pounds of plant proteins being used to produce 1 pound of beef protein. If these grains were fed to people that were in hunger, it would have a possibility to cure world hunger. People say that vegetarians live
There are many pros to becoming any type of vegan or vegetarian. Vegetarians usually don’t eat as much saturated fat and cholesterol. Also, vegetarians usually get proper dietary fibers, folic acid, potassium, magnesium and vitamins C and E. Because of this lifestyle they are more likely to have a lower body mass index, lower blood pressure, and lower cholesterol. These factors help reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Scientists discovered most vegetarians
Is eating meat a detrimental threat to the environment? This debate over meat’s involvement in the global warming crisis was what inspired Nicolette Hahn Niman to write, “The Carnivore’s Dilemma.” Niman hoped writing, “The Carnivore’s Dilemma,” would cause her audience to understand that eating meat, raised on traditional farms, was a superior alternative to vegetarianism. Niman supported her claim by explaining how industrialized farms and vegetarians produce more of the three greenhouse gases that caused global warming, than that produced by traditional farms. Niman’s article fell short of being effective due to flaws in her supporting evidence and conclusion.
The Impact of Humor As Leo Rosten, an American humorist and author states, “Humor is the affectionate communication of insight” Humor is an intelligent way to enforce an argument to your audience. With the employment of humor, the authors are able to persuade their readers into understanding, and sometimes agreeing with their opinions. Humor allows authors to have the insight about their topic thus, giving the author credibility and zealousness. In Laura Fraser's essay, “Why I Stopped Being a Vegetarian”, she employs the element of humor to strengthen her essay in a myriad of ways.
Finally, the quality of counterargument expressed throughout Garretson’s essay, has also been effected by her biased stance on vegetarianism, because she has been unable to display and acknowledge opposing views in her piece. It is very important for one to present counterarguments in their writing because it shows that the writer is not narrow-minded, and instead, is fair by considering other perspectives. Additionally, the use of counterargument adds credibility to a writing and makes the arguments that one presents more believable and trustworthy. Since Garretson does not display or acknowledge any opposing views in her essay, her arguments lose a great deal of credibility. There are many different approaches that Garretson could have taken
If the vegan or vegetarian does not eat a balanced diet, it can result in the inability to develop sufficient immunity cells from certain viruses and decrease in production of nail, hair, and skin cells. This is the first sign of malnutrition. Although, animals are an important part of our ecosystem, they are a food source in many parts of the world. To question Frazier’s ideas, would not a carnivorous animal eat you if given the chance? It is society 's obligation to treat everything and everyone with dignity and compassion.
In today’s world, there is a division among the people in the world regarding whether or not it is ethical to eat meat. After researching about eating meat and vegetarianism, I have come to the conclusion that it is indeed ethical to eat meat in today’s society. Sure, eating meat might have its drawbacks, but I have found that the benefits of eating meat far outweigh the negatives of eating it. Eating meat not only helps improve people’s health, but it also helps strengthen our economy and it has little difference in the environmental impact that involves in the farming of vegetables. Eating too much of anything usually results in a negative outcome.
“I asked myself a question: "Knowing what I know, why am I not a vegetarian?"’ Graham Hill, an inspiring speaker, introduced a new way to eat. During his speech on TED Talk, he explains to his audience how eating meat has affected the world. In a calm and humorous tone, Hill proposes his purpose. He explains to his audience by becoming a “weekday veg” you will live a better live, it’s great compromise that will help people, animals, and the environment.
But if you love and want to help animals, it really does benefit being vegan. There is no difference between a cow and a dog. The only difference is your perspective. Your egg carton or mayonnaise jar may tell you that they came from “free-range chickens”. Your meat supplying grocery store may tell you that the flesh of the animal you are eating
Eating meat is beneficial to humanity, because they provide nourishment that cannot be obtained from other sources. Without the support of animals, humans lack a distinctive diet, that is essential to their well-being. However, since animals are so important to the diet, they deserve great care and respect as well. Humans were always hunters and gathers. They always knew that meat was a big source of protein that helped keep them going(Araki).
In everyday conversations about vegetarianism, a lifestyle without meat, the most common reaction is disbelief quickly followed by the question, “But how do you get any protein?”
Although people irrefutably need sustenance to survive, humans have developed an unbalanced reliance on creatures like cows and chickens as their main food source. “In the United States, about 35 million cows, 115 million pigs, and 9 trillion birds are killed for food each year” (Vegetarianism). This constant demand for meat illustrates the endless cycle of breeding animals and then slaughtering them. However, many first-world countries hold a surplus of provisions that supplies more than enough to feed their people, making the use of livestock pointless.
