Greece and India had belief systems that shared some common aspects. However, the two systems had many basic differences. Greece and India were more different, because Greece’s system was based in Humanism, while India’s was based in spiritualism. The Greeks emphasized the physical world, concentrating on what was right in front of them, things they could see and touch. The Indians believed in something beyond the physical world. To them, there was a higher plane of existence that was beyond the physical world around them. Because of their differences in beliefs, India and Greece had opposing philosophies on which they based their governments, their religions, and their overall societies and social structures. The system of government was based on philosophy rather than belief of something higher like gods. The Greeks believed in the ability of men to think rationally and govern based on reason. Greece believed more in what they could see. The Greeks government was run through the citizens, it was voted on who would rule; it was not like India where the rulers were based on patriarchy. Some might argue that Ancient India and Greece were more similar rather than different, however Greece and India were more different than they were similar. Some might argue that India’s Caste system is closely related to However, Caste and social hierarchy were more different because Caste happens over different lifetimes, and social hierarchy can happen over one. In the caste system people could move their position in their current life, however they could have moved up or down depending on how they acted in their last life.
