set up strategy aiming at leaving “a lasting tourist legacy”, as a result of the appeal for the host nation.
Hence, due to the commercial success of such events, host nation organizers have adapted the Olympic ceremonies to the economic prospects, adjusting “the timing and structure of events to maximize global viewership. In this way, the economics of a globalized mass media continue to Olympic stagings of the Nation.”
1.2.2.2. Reassertion of Power and Prominence
Olympic opening ceremonies play a significant role in the assertion of power and prominence of the host country, and can therefore serve as healing internal wounds related to a lost glorious past. Such celebrations of the nation can induce a deep feeling of nostalgia and be considered a “symbolic reaffirmation of national greatness” and “a requiem for the country as a great power.”

It aims at impressing and arousing admiration towards the host nation. The online Oxford Dictionaries define soft power as follows: “A persuasive approach to international relations, typically involving the use of economic or cultural influence.” …show more content…

In the past 100 years, Anne Mellbye looked back at the most political Olympic Games during that time. Adolf Hitler was remembered most for the failed attempts during the Berlin Games, because he tried to use the games to prove his Aryan racial theories. Even though it did not end the way that he thought it would, the games ended with the African American sprinter and long jumper Jessie Owens as being named the most popular hero of the Games. Jessie won gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and the long jump.
Every year, since 1971, Memorial Day has been observed as a national holiday in the United States, in which we honor those who died while protecting our country. To me, Memorial Day is a time where we as a nation, are reminded that all of the freedoms and rights that we take for granted, came at the cost of men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our country. When Memorial Day befalls its designated date, I am reminded that people fought and died for my freedom and rights. I am reminded that if people didn’t fight for me and for this country, it wouldn’t be the great and prosperous country that it is. Therefore, I take pride in the fact that someone went to war and died to protect my freedoms.
Cities around the world bid millions for the chance of hosting the world’s greatest athletic event: the Olympic Games. Tokyo, Japan spent $150 million to bid for its spot as the 2016 Summer Olympics host, but it ended up losing that bid and the millions of dollars (McBride 5). When Boston had the chance to bid for the 2024 Olympics, many Bostonians were protesting against the Olympics in Boston (Gregory 2). Their anger stems from the negative effects the Olympics bring to its host city. In Montreal, the Olympics inundated the city a $1.5 billion debt (McBride 3).
To continue, in document 7 they discuss the topic of the sponsors. The sponsors are one of the main things that help the Olympics happen in the first place. The money helps make the medals and to broadcast everything live. This can be beneficial, like it was for Tokyo, or it can be negative in the aspect of the amount spent. That amount increases every year making the reputation of the games Increase to a higher level in the social ranking
"Running, long jump, shot put, javelin, discus, and equestrian competitions" are some of the many Olympic sports played many centuries ago. While these sports were made for entertainment purposes, they were also helpful for ancient civilizations. The Games had a religious and political significance and helped Greek historians and writers to keep track of time. These games were very important to history and to this very day The Olympics were held in honor of the Greek gods.
similarly, document 7 describes that countries that sponsored the Seoul Olympics of 1988 such as united states and Japan have made tremendous profits, on the other hand, Korean corporations have “failed to avail itself of an opportunity to display its industrial and economic power to a worldwide television” by not sponsoring the Olympics. According to the international Olympic committee statistics, there was also an increase in the economic participation of different nations to pay to the international Olympic committee for international tv and radio broadcast rights. This demonstrated the willingness of countries to contribute to the Olympic games because it benefited them(doc
He questions his audience of the significance of Independence Day to slaves, and he answers it in an extremely contrasting way: “your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; … your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery,” that the celebration is “a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages.” Douglass dismisses the national pride, characterizing it as a mere expression of people’s ignorance. The antithesis, with “greatness” being “vanity,” “sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless,” and “shouts of liberty and equality” being “hollow mockery,” provokes shock and anger from the audience, who have just been part of it and are now degraded as “savages.” However, Douglass was not trying to be inflammatory but provocative, witnessing the pathetic enthusiasm in the anniversary, that people feel exuberant about themselves while ignoring the saddening

The original cost estimate was planned to be $120 million. However, the final actual cost was $1.5 billion, so this research part of research will be looking for analysing these causes and concluding the learned lessons (Fotheringham, 1999).

The sun illuminates countless all-American names, with the occasional Coke or Papa John’s sponsor signs. The play clock ticks down to zero, and the stadium is finally filled to maximum capacity. Kickoff commences, players scramble across the field, and suddenly the only problems in the world hinge on if the Nike plastered football is past the downs marker. There are the elite suites high above the stadium cloaked in shade, but the majority are cramped and blisteringly hot. We are all united as one, cheering our team to victory, and thriving on the culture that is modern day sports.

The Democratic Weimar Republic had ended and the new Nazi regime had commenced its reign of militaristic, totalitarianism and anti-Semitism principals. The 1936 Olympic games were held to sheet those principals with Nazi propaganda and reveal the revitalized nation of Germany. The Berlin Summer games were a much higher standard than the Winter Olympics, however they both played interval parts for the Nazi propaganda machine.
