I have recently relocated to Massachusetts from Rhode Island and have been given the wonderful opportunity to substitute teach at this year. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, and hold teaching licenses in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. I worked as a PPCD aide for Shadow Glen Elementary in the Manor Isd district from March 21- April 22 under the supervision of Mrs. Clack-Jones the PPCD teacher. Our classroom setup was different than most, because our morning classroom consisted of 5-6 kids at a time, ages between 3-5. In the afternoon me and another aide were sent out to a Pre-k class to help out the Pre-k teacher. Both the morning teacher and afternoon teacher had different approaches to gaining the class’s attention. The morning teacher, Mrs. Clack used more than one method to gain the kids attention, since the children in her classroom were either Autistic or have Down syndrome.
Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.

Furthermore, my degree has allotted me the necessary communication skills and cultural sensitivity, needed in order for me to work with the individual who has been the diagnosis of hard of hearing and deaf. Personal Statement I come from a large family with relatives from a little ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of which have never made it past grade school. Mainly due to their mother, my grandma, she had fallen very ill. Due to her condition and lack of money my aunts and uncles dropped out of school to work and help pay for her medication and medical expenses. The older siblings had to take care of the younger siblings.
I have ten years of public school teaching experience in both general education, and special education, in addition to over six years of work experience in the academic environment as a preschool instructor teaching in a variety of settings with multiple age groups. I believe that my previous job experience, personal experience, and stellar education provide me with a strong foundation to help other educators create a learning environment that offer appropriate content, materials, and activities, while using research-based methodologies that are coordinated with a child’s level of development and for which the individual child is ready. I was born and raised in Beloit, KS, and graduated from Beloit Jr. Sr. High School in 2017. After graduating, I knew I wanted to go to K-State since my mom and sister both graduated from there. Initially, I was enrolled to get my degree in Psychology. I quickly realized that I was more interested in the educational setting side of psychology and switched majors to Elementary Education. Through my teaching program, I was introduced into many different teaching environments that equipped me with the best tools in order to create a supportive and enriched learning experience.

My K-12 education has tremendously affected my decision to become a special education teacher. I am certain I want to become a special education teacher. It started at the age of five when I was showing interest in special education kids. Katie Wilcox had Trisomy 18 which is when you have an extra chromosome but is also called Edwards’ syndrome. Katie did not walk or talk like a normal person would.

Classroom Observation Reflection Abrar Hilal University of Oklahoma Tuesday, February 12 Classroom Observation Reflection Special Education Classroom Report The special education classroom that I observed, included the main teacher, two teacher assistants, and ten students with Developmental Delays. The main teacher uses technology to aid the students to learn easy and faster. A smart board is present in the classroom, but the teacher doesn 't use it often as she prefers to use her own handouts and her specially created activities. I think this is effective as she can modify activities better and so that the students benefit from that personalized touch.
I spent my fifteen hours observing two special education classrooms at Sulphur Intermediate School. One focused on math and the other on reading, though many of the children I observed worked in both classrooms. The students were in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. Most of the students had mild to moderate disabilities and simply needed extra help in reading, math, or both subjects. They did not stay for the entire day, but rather came for certain periods.

It was the day that I’ve been waiting for over 3 years. A day that would finally let me be normal like everyone else and have the choices as other people without being ridiculed by the teachers that saw me as unqualified to be taught in a standard way. Thanks to my mom thinking that it would be a marvelous idea to have me be placed in special education due to my lack of effort taking reading comprehension test. I was placed in special education at the end of 5th grade, and sought to see the end of it. That day would eventually come on early April of 2015, where I was called upon to the office during class in 8th grade.
