In “Strengths Finder 2.0,” Tom Rath informs us that, “You cannot be anything you want to be- but you can be a lot more of who you already are” (Rath p9). I agree with him in the fact that we must focus on our strengths rather than trying to better our weaknesses in order to become successful. So many people today put their attention towards improving their weaknesses that they are surpass by others who focus on their strengths. After learning my own personal strengths, I have a better understanding of who I am and how to focus on these both in school and in the workforce.
To begin with, my top strength is positivity. According to Rath, “ You are generous with praise, quick to smile, and always on the lookout for the positive in the situation” (Rath p141). I believe it is always important to be positive regardless of how bad a situation is. My job is to motivate others when they become pessimistic of a certain task. This strength is essential in both school and a career as neither a classmate or a co-worker wants to surround him or herself with negativity that makes for a long day. With that being said, I am capable of handling what comes my way whether it is an easy task or an obstacle where I am faced with challenges along the way. Being able to adapt to any type of situation shows that I am able to roll with the punches and get the job done. It may be going out of my way to help another classmate on their part of a project while still having to finish my part, but in the end we are a team and finished together. This strength is also an asset in the workforce as employers look for people who can accustom to different types of situations. I believe this will definitely make me stand out from others when it comes down to the end
