Shreveport Louisiana, founded in 1836 by the Shreve town company, a company established to develop a town at the juncture of the Red River and the Texas Trail. Shreveport named after Captain Henry Miller Shreve, who was a steamboat captain in the 1830s who cleared the “Great Raft” log jam along the Red River, clearing the great raft it opened up the area to commerce, which starts the growth and leading to the establishment of Shreveport. Due to high taxes, many people do not reside inside the city of Shreveport, they live in areas around the city like Bossier City Parish. You can see all their cultures through their music, food, and their everyday lifestyle in the area. Along with nearby city Bossier City Parish, Shreveport serves as the trade and culture center for the Ark-La-Tex area. Some cultural events that take place in Shreveport is The Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade, Aseana festival, and the highland jazz and blues festival. There are many more cultural events that take place all year round throughout Shreveport. The Krewe of Centaur Mardi Gras Parade was organized in 1991, by the common goals of building a better community and the pursuit of good family fun. It’s the largest parade in the Ark-La-Tex area. It takes place 10 days before Fat Tuesdays. The Aseana spring festival is a festival of different Asian culture in the country. Each year the festival celebrates one Asian culture in particular and this year on April 2nd Shreveport celebrated the Laotian culture. The highland jazz and blues festival is an annual music and arts event that is held on the second Saturday of November at a city park in the historic Highland neighborhood. This festival started in 2003 to help the ongoing growth of the neighborhood. Many musical talent of Shreveport play in this festival and recently in 2008 they incorporated an outside talent to be the headliner for the festival. Rock Hill, South Carolina for having 3 major disasters the population there is still growing, probably just due from being so close to Charlotte, North Carolina or probably because of all the rich cultures in the city and the festivals that go on throughout the year. Canton, Mississippi located on the Mississippi blues trails should not just be known for its amazing music that comes out of this town but also should be known for having a high risk of tornados in this area. The damage of a tornado in Canton is higher than other areas in the nation. Canton’s economy for being located on the northern metropolitan area has many perks, it holds the nation’s largest automobile manufacture and for hosting a flea market arts and craft show it has attracted over thousands of people to the area. Shreveport, Louisiana known for riverboat gambling and all the casinos in the downtown area, it’s also very diverse. Rich with many cultural in the area dealing with the Caddo Indians that once lived there, and the formal African slaves that used to work on the plantations in the area. This city is culturally diverse, with long-lasting influences of French, Spanish, and African ancestry and you can see it all with the festivals that are held annually and with everyday lifestyle in the area.
