Measurement is very important in the process of creating a traditional Balinese house. Building a Balinese house is a ritual process and as every ritual process there are certain steps that must be followed, perhaps the measurement (length) of a certain part of the balinese house or the level of how high or low a certain column may be. This itself is called the Balinese Architectural Lexicon.
The Balinese Architectural Lexicon is mainly followed by these ancient documents otherwise known as Asta Kosali. Asta Kosali is a document in which was scribed by hand on lontar palm manuscripts. Somewhat like the image below

The Asta Kosali is known to provide a great detailed portrayal of negative consequences that will result from overlooking the rules in the text. These negative consequences involving tragic events happening such as murder in the household, death from diseases, unfaithful spouses, poverty and the loss of affection of the Hindu gods. These consequences are quite alarming and can just occur by a mistake in the process of building a traditional Balinese house, therefore the Balinese take cautious during the process making sure every step in the Asta Kosali is followed to avoid these negative consequences. Building control is an important aspect to consider whilst in the construction process; if the approved inspectors and the CIOB do not inspect the work being done then the workers will not know if they are doing something wrong. The reason in which building control is important is that the inspectors can make sure that everyone is complying with building control. The regulations that are implemented exist to ensure the health and safety in and around all types of buildings they also provide for energy conservation and access to and use of buildings. The building regulations contain various sections dealing with definitions, procedures and what is expected in terms of the technical performance of building work.
In chapter 4 of Ancestral Lines by John Barker, Barker discusses the two main guides of reasoning used by the Maisin of Papua New Guinea; Christianity and older traditional views. He describes how although both are different methods of thinking, both are used in harmony to describe the everyday occurrences encountered by the Maisin people (Barker 2008:134). Christianity, as described in the ethnography, is used wholly to motivate the Maisin intrinsically through the abolishment of fear, and to instill morals and values (Barker 2008:133-134). In times of need, Christianity was often relied on to seek solace and comfort (Barker 2008:124). For instance, the Maisin often used sacred objects (charms) that were said to protect them from sorcery;
Language persuades individuals to express other people about all of their feelings. If all of these people want to express their feelings, then wouldn’t they also make an impact on the world, by changing someone else’s mood by their writing. To persuade someone is to influence or change the reader’s thinking/opinion. To Impact is to change something or have an effect (positive or negative). If a writer or anyone wants to express themselves, they should.
Kieu Tran’s comprehensive diction produces a clear distinction between American and Asian culture with examples of “physical punishment in Asian traditions is not considered child abuse” and “in America, there is no way that Asian parents can physically punish their children, if their children perform badly.” Kieu Tran touches on the ideas that America relies heavily on the thought of equality between any person, whether it is a minor or an adult, and the effects it has on Asian immigrant families, especially from Vietnam. In America, beating a child for whatever reason is automatically classified as child abuse, and it can lead to days in jail, like what happened to Mr. Ma and his daughter. Mr. Ma struck his daughter twice, which led to him

Planning and designing are the figurative part of the construction process. Taking thoughts and ideas and drawing them out on paper in order to maximize the beauty that nature intended are all the first part of the process. Understanding what plants and flowers would naturally grow in a specific habitat, that they would not only flourish but also add a certain degree of beauty is very important.
My reaction was quite shocking and very open minded. For my own understanding I imagined if I were experiencing this situation. My reaction to all this would be more of an emotional feeling, such as vulnerable and lonely. Having to leave your small village and adapt to the United States is a huge difference of adaptation. Tan ends this essay by using the appeal of pathos. When Tan was a kid, she “was ashamed of her English” (310 Tan). However, as she grows up, her mother’s english inspires her writing and leads her to find the goal of writing. As Tan discusses in her essay, “I wanted to capture what language ability tests can never reveal: her intent, her passion, her imagery, the rhythms of her speech and the nature of her thoughts” (314 Tan). To be specific, this is saying that the meaning of writing is exploring people’s internal thoughts.
