The cops hastily skid the car against the vacant parking lot and surrounded Dally. He was trapped. The gang was always there to bail Dally out of any trouble, but this time, they were just too late. Dallas Winston already pulled out his unloaded gun and pointed it at the police. He told Ponyboy before, “I been carryin’ a heater. It ain’t loaded, but it sure does help a bluff.” (Hinton 153) Dally used to say, “Whenever in trouble, use a gun. It will scare off anyone.” Dally has robbed stores before, but never has he threatened the police with his gun. Maybe the Socs, but that was a different story. That was for self defense, this was different. ¨Put the gun down! Put it down or I will have to shoot you!” threatened the police. ¨Shoot me! Shoot …show more content…
After a few days of care, he was discharged from the hospital and sent home with constant care. Since the gang is like Dally’s family, Dally was taken care of in the Curtis’s home. When they arrived at the beaten up house, Dally was laid on the couch. He began to say to Ponyboy, “This is all your fault! You! You HAD to help the kids in the fire. You had to be the one that was thrown out of the building before him. He would be here without your stupidity. You never use your head and we all made excuses for you, but this time, you cost us Johnny.” Ponyboy looked up with dismay. Tears started to fill his eyes as he took in everything Dally had just said. “It WASN’T MY FAULT! DON’T BLAME ME!” screamed Ponyboy. “I did NOTHING to deserve you and your malicious accusations! Johnny’s dead, so can you just SHUT UP!” Ponyboy began to cry as everything began to sink in. Johnny was dead, and this was the first time he actually said it, and believed it. Dally induced the conversation and yelled, “IT WAS ALL YOU AND YOU KNOW IT! YOU KILLED JOHNNY! Are you happyyyy?” Darry punched Dally right in the face. “Don’t EVER talk to my brother like that! YOU HEAR ME! We welcomed you into our home to HELP you, and all you have done was point fingers at us! He did nothing to you or Johnny so GET OUT or STOP TALKING! YOUR CHOICE!” Dally glanced at Darry and Ponyboy as he was getting ambushed …show more content…
Ponyboy avoided Dally and very rarely did he even glance at him. He felt abused and hurt by his words because he felt there was a possibility that Dally spoke the truth. Although Pony felt betrayed, Dally felt even worse. Every day he struggled to have reason to stay alive. “Try to think that Johnny is better off now, try to remember that Dally would have ended up like that sooner or later.” (Hinton 157) No matter if Johnny died 20 years later or 5 years earlier, Dally would have ended up in the same situation he’s in now. Realizing that there's no point in living anymore. Exactly a week after Johnny had passed, Dally was ready to move on. He was in so much pain and finally came to a conclusion that life’s not worth living for. Dally struggled to the bathroom door as he felt a huge burden on his shoulder. He had doubts, but there was no time for anything like that. He already made up his mind. His hand shook with anxiety as he twisted the doorknob open. He rummaged through the cabinets and found a bottle of ibuprofen unopened. He held the bottle in his trembling hands and pulled off the plastic quickly. Ponyboy came into the house, only to find that Dally was not there on the couch. “Dally? Dally? Where are you? Dally?” Ponyboy heard screaming in the bathroom. He rushed over and opened the door. “I can’t get the cap off!” cried Dally. Ponyboy jumped on Dally to get the bottle from him. Dally fell to his knees sobbing, still
If anybody messes and gets in his way, Dally will beat them up. Dally is the most meanest and unforgiving person in the gang. Pony doesn’t really like the way he acts to everybody. Dally has been aggressive all his life.
With Dally’s body dead but still warm and the rest of the gang furious, Ponyboy “felt [himself] swaying on [his] feet” and “the ground rushed up to meet [him] very suddenly” (154). Ponyboy had to try to stay “tuff” around
He didn’t care, after finding out that johnny has died he goes crazy and robs a store. As he is running out he gets shot in his lower abdomen but still runs off. He calls Pony, Steve, Two-bit, Darry, and Soda, when they get to the vacant lot where he was surrounded by policemen, he pulled out an unloaded gun, he wanted to die that 's why he did it, he was gunned down by the police. Dally got what he wanted and dying was what he wanted after Johnny died, he died a hoodlum… ‘“Dally didn 't die a hero, he died violent, violent, and desperate. Like we knew he
Dally is known for always being tough and a ‘true’ greaser. He has not had a soft spot for anyone but Johnny. After Johnny died, he did not take it well and took off from the hospital. After Dally disappears, Ponyboy questions, “How can I take it? I wondered.
While helping he is caring and loving towards others. “ ‘Take care kid,’ ” (page 62) he says speaking to Pony because Dallas cares for him. He wants to make sure that Ponyboy will be safe and will take care of himself. Dally also doesn't want anyone to get mentally of physically injured.
At the beginning of the story, Dally is tough, cold, and mean. He was neglected as a child and left to his own accords where he was on the streets at a young age making him grow up fast. He got in gang fights, he's robbed people, robbed stores, concealed weapons, he was incarcerated, and just not a good person to be around. Ponyboy tells the reader this when he said, “He was tougher than the rest of us tougher colder meaner.” (pg10)
Dally is not strong mentally (when he couldn’t let Johnny go), he really does not do good deeds, and he does not care about any other people than only Johnny, and he’s rude to others and bad at using words. A quotation that supports my statement is, “What for? Get back in here before I beat your head in.” (p.90) This quotation supports my statement because Dally said this to Ponyboy when he hopped off the car and said to see what the deal is when he saw the old church on fire, it proves that Dally does not care about other stuff that does not involve him and that he’s rude to others and using
Dally had jumped a few people. [...] But not all of us are that bad” (34). While Cherry is a Soc, she knows that you can’t judge people by who they hang out with. In fact, Cherry took time to talk to Ponyboy rather than judging him by the way Dally acted.
Dally not only died a hero to Johnny, he died a hero to many others as well. Dally showed his courage when he put his life at risk to help Johnny and Ponyboy run away from the crime they committed, and he also saved Johnny and Ponyboy from the fire inside of the church. Dally might have been cowardly in some parts of The Outsiders ,but his heroic acts to Ponyboy, Johnny, and other members of the gang show that he died a hero. First of all, Dally died a hero because he helped Ponyboy and Johnny hide from the crime that they committed even though he took a risk in doing so. Dally gave information to two wanted criminals on where to hide, and the police were not as nice to Greasers as they were to Socs.
Before Johnny was going he gave Ponyboy his book and left a note that was too late to be discovered. The note said “Stay Gold Ponyboy, Stay Gold!” Meaning stay pure and live life to the fullest, Dally is more of the opposite. The note also said to show Dally the sunset to make him not as mean and to care more about the world and to be more kind. Johnny didn’t know Dally would suicide because of him.
Ponyboy didn’t even listen to Dally (the most dangerous person in the gang) when he shouted, “Get outa there! That roof’s gonna cave in any minute. Forget those blasted kids!”
After entering the Nightly Double Dally sees two girls and immediately Ponyboy knew by the expression on his face he was up to something, “I had a sick feeling that Dally was up to his usual tricks, and I was right. He started talking, loud enough for the two girls to hear. He started out bad and got worse. Dallas could talk awful dirty if he wanted to and I guess he wanted to then.” [20] Ponyboy does not approve of Dallas’s demeanor, and knew right away that Dally was up to no good.
Dally A rock-hard hood who never backs down from any challenge. Dally is a character in the book “Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders is a book where a ragtag group of greasers band together and overcome victories, tragedies, and above all, build an even stronger bond of brotherhood. This story begins in the town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Ponyboy(our main character) is walking home from the movies and gets ambushed by a large group of Socs(Sociables-the “popular/rich” clique).
This shows how he gained back his self-confidence and his ability to stand up for himself. Johnny finally found his acceptance from Dally when Dally said, “We’re all so proud of you” (148). When Dally said that Ponyboy noticed Johnny’s eyes glowing, “Dally was proud of him... That was all he ever wanted” (148). In the letter he wrote to Ponyboy, “It’s worth saving those kids...
(1.48) After Johnny died, Dally makes an enormous sacrifice that took away his life. He loved Johnny so much that he couldn't take the fact he was gone. Dally was known to be the most cold-blooded member of the gang but after Johnny's death, he was the one who showed the most affection. Dally wouldn’t have been shot if he didn’t love Johnny so much, and sacrificed himself.
