“The Wave” (Norwegian: Bølgen) is a 2015 Norwegian catastrophe drama film directed by Roar Uthaug. It was Norway's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards but it was not nominated. The original language of “The Wave” is Norwegian, but it was translated to English when it was on Malaysia cinema on 31 December 2015. I came to know that “The Wave” is in Norwegian language when I watched it online. I was so surprised as I thought the movie should be in English. With the help of subtitles, I managed to enjoy the movie. The setting of “The Wave” is at the Geiranger fjord in Norway. Geiranger is one of the most coveted tourist spots in all of Norway. As the opening news footage warns us, any village at the base of a mountain, especially one as big as Åkerneset, is a ticking time bomb. For examples, the news goes on with “The cracks of mountain grew up each year which showed that the landslide is inevitable. There had been a huge mountain landslide in Lodalen in Nordfjord, Norway caused a huge flood which killed 63 people in the night of the 15th January 1905. Research also showed there are 300 unstable mountains in Norway. The cracks are already widening….” Over ominous footage of landslides hurtling towards small towns, we hear “It’s only a matter of time before the next big disaster.” With all these introduction of the movie, it makes me understand that this movie was made based on a real event happened in Norway long time ago and the landslides may happen again but we all don’t know when. It makes me curious about how a landslide or rockslide can cause big wave which also known as tsunami that make a disaster. As we all know, tsunami usually caused by earthquake, so this landslide-caused tsunami is something new to
