Introduction
According to Tajamul Islam and Dr. Uma Chandrasekaran, Halal and Haram stand for Islamic law based on the knowledge of The Holy Quran and Sunnah (the prophet’s way of life) and order every aspect of a Muslim’s life. The word Halal is usually understood to refer to the product that is permitted according to Islam. However in Arabic, it refers to acceptable behavior, speech, dress, conduct, manner and diet (Al-Jallad, 2008). Halal certification from a recognized Islamic organization helps build confidence among Halal consumers and is a reliable and authoritative declaration to support manufacturers’ claims that their products are Halal compliant. Halal certification might be appropriate not just for meat and other food exporters, but also for other manufacturers for example leather. The Halal certificate verifies product’s conformity with Islamic Laws that cover two main principles: the absence of forbidden substances and guarantee of high hygiene and safety level of a product. The core products that are forbidden in Islam are pork and alcohol, as well as other goods that had any dealings with the latter substances (Ruževičius, 2012). Religions have value systems and belief that are expressed in terms of, acceptances, sanctions prohibitions, actions, behaviors, and reactions. Thus, religion influences consumer preference both directly as well as indirectly. For example, Hinduism prohibits eating beef and Muslims prohibits comsumption pork and achohol. Subsequently, Halal ceritification is importanat to make sure the product are absence of forbidden substance especially the leather. It is forbidden for Muslims to wearing or using product that substance from pork leather. According to Tajamul Islam and Dr. Uma Chandrasekaran, Muslims around the world are becoming more aware about the Halalness of other categories like pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, clothing, banking & financial services, education, leisure & entertainment and hospitality & tourism services.
