Topic 1: Business codes are the most effective instrument for preventing unethical behavior in the workplace. INTRODUCTION Upholding an ethical code can most plainly be perceived as ‘doing the right thing’. Before we delve into the intricacies of business codes, there are certain questions we need to ask ourselves, based on our preliminary and elementary understanding. Can we differentiate on what is right and wrong in the workplace? How will bad ethical practice affects individuals, companies, societies and the economy? Do positive ethical standards prognosticate a more conducive environment for organisations? A business code of ethics (BCE) can be perceptibly defined as a set of prescriptions developed by a company to guide the behaviour of managers and employees, and it is the most cited instrument for preventing unethical behaviour in the workplace. (Kaptein and Schwartz, 2008). The augmenting adaptation of BCE has caused companies to become pressurised, or even legally obliged to follow suit. …show more content…
They are conducted after successively entering the control variables (i.e. age, location of unit, hierarchical position) and the independent variables (i.e. existence of BCEs, frequency of communication surrounding BCE, Quality of communication, content of BCEs, embedment of BCE). The models, with one independent variable added each time, presented the change of results after including a new variable. Gender was greatly related to unethical behavior in all models, whereas hierarchical position and age, respectively, were significant in two and three of the seven models. In a nutshell, based on models one to seven of his thesis, models one and two displayed BCEs having a negative relationship with unethical work habits; whereas models six and seven showed a positive one, i.e. with the introduction of quality communication, and embedment of BCEs by senior

This competency is all about being able to make critical decisions in the case of ethical dilemmas and acting professionally in the work place. Although ethical dilemmas rarely have clear-cut solutions, this competency tells social workers to turn to the NASW code of ethics and supervision for guidance. That is exactly what I did for my "Ethic Paper" which you can find below. For this assignment, I was asked to interview a licensed MSW about an ethical dilemma they faced in their career, how they handled it, and how they came to their decisions. This assignment allowed me to better understand how an ethical dilemma is handled in the real world (as opposed to the many hypothetical situations we discuss in class) and also challenged my interviewing
INTRODUCTION A widely used definition is: "A conflict of interest is a set of circumstances that creates a risk that professional judgement or actions regarding a primary interest will be unduly influenced by a secondary interest." Primary interest refers to the principal goals of the profession or activity, such as the protection of clients, the health of patients, the integrity of research, and the duties of public office. Secondary interest includes not only financial gain but also such motives as the desire for professional advancement and the wish to do favours for family and friends, but conflict of interest rules usually focus on financial relationships because they are relatively more objective, fungible, and quantifiable.
Ethics plays an integral role in promoting the well being of individuals in the society. Early scholars, though with different perceptions of the idea, emphasized the need for an ethical based community or society. Each community has various ethical guidelines, which its members are supported to follow. The same actually applies for organizations, whether public or privately owned. This demonstrates that the idea of ethics is homogeneous and that provides the optimum level where behavior, whether individual or institutional, can be regarded as right and not in violation of societal norms or organizational expectations.

Review of Literature Unethical behavior can tarnish a company’s image and reputation. If a company is unethical, they may have to spend additional money to improve their public image, as well as gain back as many customers as possible. The reason I have chosen to use articles that are quite a few years old and that are not so recent is because I feel that they are very good examples of what I am trying to prove in the terms of ethical behaviour within companies and these specific articles relate well to my chosen topic.
