Abstract Contemporary cities are a complex organism; it is a space of heterogeneous relationships competing claims. Dhaka-the 9th largest city in terms of population and the capital of Bangladesh is not only has a complex organism in terms of planning but also has a unique phenomenon and pattern in its own life style and culture. Millions of individual pursuits constantly church together into a frenzy of collective activity – it is an urban melting pot bubbling over and like a city which is forever changing and never finished. Though it has a rational and institutional urban planning, but still temporary, informal and non-designer’s design have a big role in its urban context. This paper tried to focus on this temporal, mobile and non designer’s …show more content…
Development of this urban vernacular is quite strong and has some similarities with the rural vernacular in terms of material and form. Its development is process biased like rural vernacular and also has an unbiased development where economic affordability and crisis of land are the main factor behind it. Both of them are tested by time and perform respecting their surroundings, climate, topography, culture etc. Vernacular in rural area mostly depend on natural and local materials but Urban Vernacular recycle and reuse urban product, use by product of factories and explore transformation. Where vernacular express a marginal; group identity where Urban Vernacular deals with individuality where experience with the context is the root of its creation. It has a ever changing attitude where city is ever changing. Urban vernacular which is designed without architects creates a noteworthy pattern in the city which is not designed by the architects or educated designers but eventually blended with the city. It is an emerging factor of the city.We can theorize it from Christopher Alexander- “We began with that part of the language which defines a town or community. These pattern can never be ‘designed’ or ‘built’ in one fell swoop- but patient piecemeal growth, designed in such a way that …show more content…
• In the conceptual level this urban vernacular conveyed total harmony with urban life style, unifying socio cultural aspirations of the individual and the entire community. • The thought process for architectural design in “Urban Vernacular” will open up few realities so that they are appropriate for the changing social order of the present. 5. CASES Streets in a city are the most happening grounds of perceiving a culture and its people. Street vendors are main catalyst of such cultural amalgamation. From eatables to fruit juices, soft toys to stone, garments to iron tools –whatever we name the products all we can find from street vendors. Street vendors are important parts of a city and an integral part of economies in many countries. They distribute affordable goods and services by providing consumers with convenient and retail options. They also form vital parts of economy and social life of city. Kind of vibrant public spaces also ensures by these private endeavors. Interestingly in their pattern of arrangements and formulation contextual innovative responses always been notified. An emergent need to optimal solution always comes as an alternative to such innovative physical
When people of a magazine vendor’s socioeconomic class succumb to this level of an unorthodox lifestyle of the street, some people may lose hope in the world. By building and maintaining a relationship with clients, street vendors have the opportunity to restore a usefulness in the form of providing a service. In Sidewalk a client, named Jack, of these specific vendors once stated, “I kind of miss Marvin and Ron sometimes” (Duneier 71). It is incredible how these vendors are able to have such an affect, such a deep relationship with their cliental when at times they have struggled to have relationships with their own families. Ron and Marvin’s line of unorthodox work, or how they refer to it, their hustle, allows for them to bring more meaning to their lives, bettering themselves with each customer

Conclusion I have shown how the change in the social thinking of Manchester since the 19th century has brought the change in architecture, which has shaped the city to the socially and creatively inspiring city it is today. From the countless reinventions of the Cornerhouse to occupy the citizens creatively, to the problems brought along with that along the way. On the most part, the ideas Cornerhouse had became successful, although some lasted longer periods than others there wasn 't a particular bad idea as they were all based on the social situation at the time they were opened.
Many proponents as well as advocates of gentrification like to use in many regard as code words to back up their claim that gentrification brings “revitalization” “urban renewal” and more importantly “enhances” the community. However, these are what many who are critical of gentrification deem to be “ code words”, because they appear to be ones that exude positivity when they are in fact not expressing the full story of the argument, because underneath this creeping positivity. There still exists this form of stereotyping that minorities, or those from lower socioeconomic means cannot create something that is unique or successful on their own. Furthermore, what existed in their communities before gentrification was one that brought little to no value to society.
These businesses vary in resources and cater to specific means. Some were tailored towards students, others for cosmetics, many for food, and others for religion. The street appears to be a melting pot of races, religions, and people of all ages which is why the various businesses stood out. It appeared that there was a business that could cater to any one of the occupants of the street. I will use the information from my Windshield Survey to guide my recommendations toward the most challenging aspects of this community.
Strengths The north end of the Lewis and Clark neighborhood has multitude strengths which it can promote. These include affordable housing, proximity to schools, street design and proximity to parks. One of the most attractive cities in the world is a place I call “home “, here in sunny San Diego. San Diego is home to some America’s finest qualities. Beautiful beaches, a world famous Zoo, Sea World, an amusement park made out of Legos (LEGOLAND), cultural diversity, an 80 Degree winters are just a few to say the least. With all these great qualities that San Diego has to offer to its residents and visitors, there are parts of the community that are not that as appealing. As our nation moves forward, our cities around this nation must also do the same.
Architecture has the ability to remark and reflect any region, give a feeling and a sense of a place, and present thoughts and creativity. Across the world, especially in the United States, there are many cities that are distinguished by its architecture and unique styles: The skyline of New York City is defined by it’s skyscrapers; San Francisco’s mixture of Victorian and modern colored houses; New Orleans’ iconic Creole townhouses; and Miami’s modernist architecture. Los Angeles, San Diego and some of the cities in the same region are no different from the previous appreciable cities all around America. These cities are located in the state of California which is on the West Coast. They share some significant architectural characteristics
structure of feeling, a set of assumption and practice that clearly marks a number of critiques of the modern project if not a breaking point with the just-past. Architecture claims to have a date for the death of modern architecture, 15th July 1972, in Missouri a prize winning complex of modern blocks of flats that had won awards as ‘modern design’ some 20 years earlier , had to be demolished when it proved to be unsuitable to live in (Plate 6,7). Such an action proclaims the death of International Style of modernist architecture, the end of buildings as machine for living in as suggested by Le Corbusier . Of course it would be wrong from our side to strictly state that what stands before the decade 1960-1970 is modern and what is after is
Lucille Tenazas’s migration to the US was quite simultaneous with the period when modernist ideas, of which minimalism and the Swiss Style were integral parts, were being called into question by intellectuals and the seeds of postmodernism were being developed. In the field of design, another event also paved the way for the encounter with postmodern ideas: the development of technology and the replacement of the analog production with the digital world. During this period, many designers
The Ignorance of Native Existence Thomas King questions the attitude of society and advocates the rights of indigenous people. King compels his readers to wonder how the indigenous people came to be in the state we see them, in the story. This was due to the conflict between white individuals and indigenous people and how the two cultures clash; industrialization and the natural world. The purpose of this text is to remind people about the harsh treatment indigenous people have received in the past. There is an imbalance of power between the two societies.
Frank Lloyd Wright is considered to be the pioneer of modern architecture. He created an identity for American architecture, while rejecting Neoclassical and Victorian style designs. Wright called this “organic architecture”. It is architecture that is simple, yet modern and co-exists with architecture. He provided a new perspective on architecture and “The American Style”.
For example, some people have problems in accessing the internet while others have confessed the positive impacts of technology in their lives. Technology has more positive than negative impacts on graphic design. Indeed, technology has made promoted the work of designers using printers, the internet, scanners and design programs. Technology has positively affected the design industry by helping designers improve on their skills and work. ( Cresswell 178).
This is all about the people dependence on technology can affect creativity and communication. If the people just always put their hope on the technology, we will get more lazier and this can give bad effects for our life. There are many effect if the people’s dependence on technology especially on human’s creativity and communication. First, let us discuss about the positive effect that we can get on depending to the technology. For example, our cloth now are more innovated from the past.
At the beginning, the public spaces were defined as an area that can be easily for everyone to access at any time. With the development of social and city, it became to a complicated definition which relevant to property, using and design of these spatial. As the result, R. Sennett said about the drop and end of public space because of these factor (Sennett, 1992) meanwhile Carr S. is finding a new pattern of modern life and it seems be a drama of living together in an enormous building (Carr, et al., 1993). Base on the traditional history and the reports, public spaces have a same pattern but they still have the differences in some factor such as historical, cultural, social even though the behavior of people in specific residential
