What makes music musical?
As we all know, different people have different ideas about music. Through some great men’s opinions, I come to realize something of music.
What is music? How do we know what kind of sound is musical and what is not? Why is music musical to some people and noise to others? All the people have the opinion that they comprehend music when they hear it, but few can say correctly what it is and why. If a man has ever experienced on the receiving end of an order like “turn down that noise,” he would know how funny ideas about music can be.
Few are successfully in truly defining music. Giving a single definition on all over the world’s music is impossible because people’s opinions are different about what music is and how musical. Many scholars of world music do research on

It has a much greater purpose. For many cultures, a dance is commonly between two people. In the African culture, a dance is usually done by a community or group and for a specific purpose….” (Tarakan 2326) “In many ways, African music is a utilitarian function used in vital aspects of life such as, a child’s naming ceremony, initiation rights, agricultural activities, national ceremonies, war times, religious ceremonies and ceremonies for the dead….” (Garnes 2)
As you can see, music is a way of life and not just a form of entertainment. There is a saying goes like this, where there is human, there is music. Music can either entertain itself or make man feel entertained, it even uses the information of musical instrument to convey the feelings between men. If a man wants to listen to music, he must choose the kind which can reduce pain, purify the heart, and beautify life. To some sense, we can say that man makes music be equipped with entertainment. The culture is deeply rooted in its music. Therefore, music can be musical under these situations.

In Mark Edmundson’s Article “Can Music Save Your Life?” he discusses his theories on music. He goes through personal experience and later onto philosophical stances. Edmunds believes music, opens figurative doors, should inspire one to create, and above all preserves the listener. Edmundson says music should make the listener desire to create.
Music can change time, tempo, dynamics, and mood very fast. This music can also be easy on the ears to quite difficult to listen to. “It is natural enough for the uninitiated to imagine that all problematic music may be safely damned under a single heading. But actually, even in the old days of "ultra-modern" music, a great many different kinds of music were grouped indiscriminately together,
Furthermore, one thing that makes African music and dance even more exciting is the communal aspect of it. You would never find one African dancing alone; once a person starts playing music and dancing, there is a ripple effect that is felt among
“You can cage the singer, but not the song”. -Henry Belafonte. For Sonny that was his life story. In the narrative Sonny’s Blues by James Baldwin.
Music can bring the brightest of joys that keeps us moving through our dull and boring lives. An example of this joy is Ishmael Beah’s life as a boy soldier in his book A Long Way Gone. As he tells you his story, he tells of his dance group with his friends, the times he heard music in the middle of war, and how music saved him from the madness that brewed within him. Music has the unique ability to create peace in a person’s life despite the difficulties surrounding them, and to bring a constant reminder of who they are as a person.
Music is powerful. It connects people. Music is both a medicine and a passion. It can communicate feelings and sensations, and can heal the mind
Every music around the world has its own history, the instruments, rhythms, and even the compositions have their own origins. Music is a tool, it is used as a way of communicating with other individuals. It is very powerful considering it can express a person’s emotions or feelings such as grief, sadness, happiness, love, and even those emotions which cannot be explained or be expressed. Jazz music is like a language. It is a language that musicians use to express their emotions on a concrete moment or the emotions that they are feeling while they are performing.
5. INSTRUMENTATION The use of instruments is essential to African music; its unique instruments are therefore a significant characteristic to consider. Many instruments are employed in African music, and differ per ethnic group. However, several instruments are common among all Sub-Saharan African countries including the talking drum, xylophones and the mbira.
Music carries each and every one of us to a new awareness. It can reach to the innermost part of an individual. Music can envelope our emotions from tears all the way to our joy. It captivates and motivates. As I attended a concert on Saturday, November 7, 2015, Lynyrd Skynyrd performed with power and feeling to their audience.
Music- an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and colour. Johnny Cash significantly changed something in this field. Music is a form of communication, and that is how Johnny saw it, when he wrote songs he did what he could to make sure his message was clear, to make sure his feelings were expressed enough. We did not create music. It has been out there, waiting for all of us to discover, appreciate and to enjoy.
Music helps me in many ways in my life, such as escape from the routine of everyday life, to dance, to raise my self-esteem and other aspects. I dedicate many hours to music, I like to feel happy, that is why I listen to music moved and happy the longest. When I have a bad day it helps me to feel good, when I have a good day the music makes me feel even better. Music puts me to sleep in times of fear and Solitude. It is not enough for me to just listen to the music, I also like to dance and enjoy it to the limit until I cannot continue because it helps me to be active.
Music has been an object of miracle, amazement, and even fear since the start of its presence. It has been used as a tool to shape culture and society through history. Music and its people influencing the lives and activities of society. Is this a good thing? Most would say yes.
The Harmony behind this type of music calls the attention to the public and the emotional aspect of it. I would say musical elements of spiritual music is the Harmony because it has several pitches playing simultaneously and it has that brooding sound that help the music convey it emotions as it goes. Another musical element that this type of music used is Melody. I think that melody play a big past of this music because the rate at which the air set it motion help the pitches to be develop and it give the song a nice touch. Melody is also an African origin because it what they use to give the message to the lord and express their feeling through it.
“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
The archetypal forms of music were probably drum-based, prelusion instruments being the most easily handy at the time. For an example, rocks and sticks. These plain instruments are thought to have been used in spiritual tradition as representations of wild things. Therefore, many of us do not realized that listening to music really does help a person’s health physically or mentally. In that case, scientist really do recommend us to choose a person’s favorite songs based on a person’s chosen genre and blast the music up anywhere and
