My topic is why college athletes shouldn’t get paid. The first reason is because People would stop watching or attending the college games. Second the kids are already getting a free college education, place to stay, meals, and there book fees paid for. Finally this would cost to much money for the NCAA to pay for all the players in the NCAA. The first
Parents and teachers in highschool make it seem like the only way to get a good job and make a living is to go to college and get a degree. In the past this might have been true and that the only way to have a solid future. College education is not worth the cost because it can be vastly expensive, create a large amount of debt, and leave the person unprepared for the job. College today can create lots of debt for the student even years after they graduate from college. Although people may argue that a person can take care of the debt faster the person may not have the ability to do so.
Growing up, for most people, going to college is not an option- its an expectation. In our society, going to college has become a fundamental part of our education, becoming an adult, and for most people just simply part of our lives. However, as people grow up and experience reality, the realization hits that college may not be as simple as once thought. As much as attending college is expected from the majority of young people, dropping out of college is not. Even with the idealization of the college experience, some students are forced to cut their education short due to a plethora of issues.
They say many successful people never graduated from college and that many jobs, do not require college degrees. This is why they should lower their costs. Michael Lemons says” most people don't go to college because they cant afford it some colleges should be more affordable for people to attend to.” with colleges being more affordable people. Even though the government makes a lot of money from college if we had more education we would be able to solve a lot of world wide problems. The nation's financial aid system currently fails to provide an equal opportunity to everyone qualified.
Getting ready for college is hard for some people because they don’t have enough money for college. Also, all their hard work for entering college has gone to a waste since they don’t have enough money. College education should be free because it could give students the life that they want, it could also help students concentrate on their studies, and lastly some people can’t afford the money. Generally speaking, college education should be free. College education should be priceless because it could give students the life that they want.
For some players a $20,000+ per year tuition is not enough, they want to be paid with more than just a scholarship. Many argue that they are putting in extra work that other student aren’t having to do, but that is the reason they are receiving free education. As college sports can be challenging, student should never receive a paycheck because they are already being given a scholarship, no debt at the end of four years, and also college sports were never meant to be used as a career.
Initially, the author points out that many college students are dissatisfied because they enrolled for the wrong reasons. The author discusses how many students attend college because it seems fun, because of parental pressure, and because they receive financial support without working (Bird 217). This means that although many students pursue higher education, few of them are motivated by passion or ambition. Next, Bird insists that many people can find professional success without attaining a college degree. Bird says “… a college diploma no longer opens as many vocational doors” (224).
I believe college education should be free, if someone is committed and wants to attend school to help them go far in life, I believe no money is needed. This is a real life problem today, families save generous amounts of money for there child to go to college. Every parent wants their child to succeed, and money can be a very wide obstacle to get over. Imagine someone growing up with little support from family members, and is not as fortunate as others, but very intelligent, they have no way of going too college, unless with a scholarship. Scholarships don't always pay for everything but a small or large chunk, depending on the area of success.
These are some of the main reasons that people in college are failing. In college people believe that they can be trusted on their own. This is shown by the lack of support that they have to fall back on. In high school you always had your parents to help you. Then now in college there's usually no parents to help you.
Waiting to go to college is a responsible choice that is often discouraged. That is because parents who haven’t been to college do not know what the deal is. They don’t know that students have got to want to go to college to be able to succeed. Another reason why is because most students don’t know what they want to be or do in college. Also, numerous parents know how it feels not to complete college, so they encourage or almost force their students to go to college soon after high school.
Athletes often can’t.” This shows that students who come from poor families can’t work after classes even if they wanted to because of practice. The article, “Should College Athletes Be Paid to Play?” also states that, “Some Division I athletes came from
The main focus should be on earning a degree, and not worrying about when is the next game on the schedule. Many people are stating that college athletes should get paid, but how about the general student body that has little to nothing and working a job earning minimal pay. For, instance, if college athletes were to unionize and get paid, then all collegiate athletes would want the same compensation deal, although their sport doesn’t generate as much revenue as power and performance sports such as football and basketball. The ramifications can be serious if female student athletes mention Title IX, which is a gender equity law that prohibits sex discrimination in any federally funded program or activity. Since some women’s sports generate revenue,
The get paid in free education.” This is just a borderline disrespectful statement and the NCAA could have said something completely different and respectful. This is disrespectful because it seems like they are making a joke out of a very controversial topic that more than 460,000 athletes face everyday. Not every athlete comes from a 5 figure background and can count on their parents to help their payments. Most athletes are only in college because of the scholarships they receive and need to make it work on their own. They could be helped by the NCAA with at least a monthly stipend to help with the costs of
People in America probably feel like they have no future if they don’t get into college, they won 't get the job they want and their parents will feel disappointed in their children, the students will have a bad life most people think. In Sweden, we are too lucky about living here that we don’t realize that, even when people tell us we don’t care, not that many people have their highest expectations about getting into college, because there is always next year, and actually quite easy to get into college. In Sweden, many kids have their lives handed to them for free, but in the U.S, the students have to work hard to get a good life and pay a high price for it. In the documentary the students didn’t have very high-tech phones or computers, they didn’t use Facebook or like any other social media, they texted, emailed and called, but no real social medias. In Sweden, we practically need to use social Medias to get to know people nowadays, it is uncommon to get to know someone in the old fashion ways of living like I for example do.
The athletes don’t know how to handle all this money; so by having college athletes it helps them with handling their money. It teaches them money management at a young age. Others may say that college athletes shouldn’t get paid because they are given scholarships. The only problem is that according The New York Time they say that “ The average athletic scholarship is less than a $11,000 a year”(Zissou). This is not for kids who are going to community college or anything.
