Should Schools in America Start Later Many kids in America come to school tired and not ready to learn. Being tired can effect your child's grades. Parents might not realize that their child is falling behind because of lack of rest. Teenagers should get up to 9 1/2 hours of sleep yet many kids only get up to 7 hours of sleep.
Did you know that not enough sleep for teens can lead to poor organization, poor time-management skills, and can make them impulsive? People are debating about how teens need more sleep. Not enough sleep isn’t healthy. Even though people are concerned about their children’s sleep, schools can’t always start as late as we want. If schools start later, this can affect after school activities such as clubs and sports.
If we don’t get enough sleep our bodies will be prominent to sickness. Our bodies will be too busy trying to keep us awake to focus on getting better. If some people can’t get to bed until 11 pm and get up at 5 that’s not enough sleep to try to fight sickness. If school starts at 7:45 am then they have to get up earlier than that to get on the bus or drive. Also if you stayed up til 12 am to 2am they’ll be tired in the mornings especially people in extra sports and they can’t miss practice even is a little bug, for some people.
All teenagers need about 8-10 hours a sleep per night to function correctly in the morning. However, we need to learn responsibility since we are growing up and are young adults. Going to school later will just hold us back and disable us from learning responsibility and some of the main aspects of an adult. Going to school later also means getting out later which leaves no time for exter after school activities like sports. Getting out later will also not leave enough time to go jibs after school which is what some families depend on to put food on the table and a roof over their head.
Most students in many schools, hate getting up early in the morning to go to school. Well I know I hate getting up early. In my opinion I feel that schools should start later on in the day. Starting schools later on the day would benefit for the students health, concentration in class, and it can be very convenient in many cases. The way starting school later could benefit the students health is one it allows the teen to get more sleep.
Would you want a student going to class half asleep? Lots of kids don't do well in school because they are not very well rested, and starting school later in the day could prevent that from happening. Health could be at risk if kids went to school too early because they wouldn’t have enough time to sleep which would most likely disturb their immune system. If schools started later, than more kids would show up and they would be more attentive which would lead to better grades. I believe schools should start later in the day because it gives kids more time to sleep, helps adolescents perform academically better, and can improve a youth’s health.
this happens because when you sleep a lot on the weekend and on Sunday you're not tired you don't get enough the night of making you tired on Monday. Even though schools can not control what students do out of school, they can accept it and help them out by moving school to a later time. There are many reasons why adults and kids don’t get enough sleep and there are things that they can do to help, but schools should definitely consider making school start later. If school started earlier health wouldn't be such a problem. Having only 5 hours of sleep is very unhealthy and it's the school district's fault.
Kids all over America aren't getting enough sleep and not being able to give there full potential. There has been study's showing that this is affecting the students a lot. This is making kids tired in school so they don't focus as much. Because of the lack of sleep, kids grades are also decreasing. This is affecting there education and could possibly impact there SAT scores ,and maybe even not get them into a college they want to go to.
Last but no least, many students that drive in high school are likely to be out at night driving and if they are tired and sleep deprived, then they are more likely to crash their car from drifting off the road. It is hard for parents to hear about teens getting in accidents and all we hear about is the ones that parents can do something about and that is alcohol related accidents. But parents, you can do something about lack of sleep. You can vote and make teens start school later at Park City High School.
