WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN EDUCATION

Ashwini Biradar and Devika A are the members of Group Five and they have taken ‘Women Empowerment in Education’ as their topic for CIA 1.
Before going deep into the topic, first of all one should know what Empowerment means. “Empowerment means moving from a weak position to execute power”. By the term ‘Women empowerment’, they try to tell the viewers that women are moved from their suppressed state to execute power and come up in life. And for that, they need education. Education is an essential means of empowering women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to fully participate in the development process.
Women constitute almost half of the population in the world. But the hegemonic masculine ideology made them suffer a lot as they were denied equal opportunities in different parts of the world. Due to the rise of Feminist idea, there has been a tremendous improvement in women’s status in the World. Women’s education in India has been a major concern of both the government and civil society as educated women can play a very important role in the development in the society. Women power is crucial to the economic growth of any country. In India, this is yet to meet the requirements despite reforms. Jawaharlal Nehru said, “If you educate a man you educate an individual, however, if you educate a woman you educate a whole family. Women empowered means mother India empowered”.
