On March 31, 1995, 20-year-old spanish popstar, Selena Quintanilla was shot and killed at a Days Inn near Corpus Cristi, Texas. Yolanda Saldivar was found guilty for the murder of Selena on October 23, 1995. Yolanda was selenas fan club and boutique manager, over the course of selenas career, they became best friends.

I believe that I should be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, because of the qualifications I have in character, attitude, education and service to Cliffside Park Middle School and our community. Being inducted into the National Junior Honor Society will help me grow as a person and will provide me with new challenges and skills. I will learn to become more responsible, to have time management, and will have the opportunity to help those in need. My service to the Cliffside Park has helped me learn to help others and to give to others.

During the Medieval and Renaissance Periods, the Motet became the most well-developed form of polyphonic vocal music. The motet was created based on the Magnus liber organi (Great Book of Organum) of French composer Leonin (fl. 1169-1201). In organum, a second voice part (the discant clausula) was added above existing Latin chant texts. This later came to be known as “motet,” from the French “mot” (“word”) and the Latin “motetus.” The second voice of the motet was known as the “duplum.”

Dana Gioia was born in Hawthorne, California on December 24, 1950. Gioia’s schooling was Catholic and a prominent school he attended was Junipero Serra High School. Later, Gioia had attended and graduated Standford Business School, but later went on to become a poet. Gioia himself remarked that he was, “the only person, in history, who went to business school to be a poet.” (Dana Gioia, Poetry Foundation).

Janine Shepherd is not only an inspiration, but she has also proven people wrong. Hit by a truck she had several injuries and was diagnosed partial paraplegic, meaning she was most likely not to be able to walk again. Years after her accident the ability of walking came back to her and she became known not for walking but for her accomplishments. Janine Shepherd faced many challenges, but overcame them and proved people wrong and inspired others with her books and her plane flying ability.

The myth from the Popol-Vuh demonstrates how the Mayans believed that humans’ existence were created to serve and worship the divine being, God, who created them with inhumane powers from and outside world looking down upon the world he created. A prominent theme throughout this myth is God’s wish to create men that will love and serve him. God claims that, “I need men on earth who will know My names, who will obey Me and love Me; and that will nourish and sustain Me” (Leeming, 61). Because this was stated by the being that was believed to be the creator of this world, the Mayans had the belief that they were created to be on Earth in order to serve God. The other beings before men, such as the men of wood and mud were destroyed by God because they did not remember God or obeyed his wishes; therefore, these beings had no purpose on Earth and were rid of. The Mayan’s belief of having to serve God, which stems from this myth, ignites their worship of God’s existence as an almighty divine being and does what they believe to please Him.

1.5 million dollars have been donated to help people be able to find treatment and recovery (“To Write”). The movement To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) is a movement that helps people who struggle with addiction, depression, self-injury and thoughts of suicide. In March of 2006 Jamie Tworkowski founded TWLOHA because of a story he heard about a girl named Renee Yohe. Many celebrities are endorsing this movement such as bands and just single members of bands. TWLOHA was invited to go on tour with some bands to help spread awareness for people who are struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury and thoughts of suicide. TWLOHA is also a non-profit organization. TWLOHA has many events that they go on to spread awareness. Events like the one on February 4th in Orlando, FL, and another one on February 8th in Elon, NC, and finally one on March 3-5 in Phoenix, AZ (“To Write”).

Two children from Indonesia, Yoyo and Duku eight and ten years old have been mining for two years. These two children mine every day, with no childhood and no education. Yoyo mother believes that mining all these children will have in their future. Yoyo is only able to read few words, while Duku has never had an education. When asked Duku would he rather be in school than mining, he seems not to mind to be at school rather than mining. People find it better for the kids to mine, their bodies are fit enough to go in the small tunnels. Carlos Conde, a researcher at Human Rights, believes that the parents are forcing the kids by either telling them or convince them to work at the mine. Yamanaka Shikanosuke was born on September 20, 1545. In his art, his portraits conventionally show a crescent moon on the front of his helmet; he was born under a harvest moon. The crescent moon ornament he wore on his helmet was a token of good luck. Yamanaka was a Japanese samurai of the Sengoku period. He served the Amako clan of Izumo Province.

This is Hamul-tawn, but it is pronounced Tom. He is a boy from syria his parents are dead in front of him because of the bombings. Hamul-tawn can 't go to school because it was destroyed by the bombings. With no education he has no future,but Hamul-tawn has bigger problems like not having electricity or running water,but Hamul-tawn is not the only syrian who this has happened to.

California is one of the largest states in America and is located on the west coast. It is often referred to as the Golden State due to its sunny and bright weather and discovery of gold during the development stages of the state. California is a highly industrialized state and has a large number of important business concerns and firms operating within the state in various cities like Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, and many others. California is an extremely popular state in terms of tourism, business, and trade.
