On November 15,Officer Jeronimo Yanez was charged with manslaughter and various gun charges due to a shooting at a routine traffic stop. On July 6, almost 5 months ago, Officer Jeronimo Yanez pulled over Philando Castile, with the assumption that he was involved in a robbery that happened a few days prior. Mr. Castile had his girlfriend and his child in the car when he was pulled over. After handing the officer his license and registration, Mr. Castile that he was armed, but there was a permit for the gun with his papers. 62 seconds later Philando Castile was shot dead by 7 rounds from Officer Jeronimo Yanez’s gun. It sparked the media’s attention due to the video that came along with the fatal death of the black male. His girlfriend, Ms. Reynolds, shared the video to gain publicity to help put the police officer on the stand. At the same time that I believe there are police officers who use excessive force, I believe there are people who are defying and undermining the officers. At the same time that the officers are protecting themselves, the innocent citizens should not be getting shot. Philando Castile’s gun was not even loaded, nor did he ever reach for the gun. This is one of the most asked topics that presidential candidates were asked during their election periods. It does not really seem like much can be done with the situation until the officer for this particular case goes on trial. As for racial profiling in general, it does not seem like much is being done to solve the problem. At the same time I ask myself, “Is there even a solution to this problem?”. We all judge people from the moment that we see them, so how exactly can this be solved besides the use of body cams and dash cams?
