Initally, al-Qaeda considered targeting nuclear power plants on 9/11, but decided to go against it because they feared it would get too out of control. Four passenger airlines, all of which departed from airports in the northeastern United States bound for California, were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda members. One plane hit the Pentagon just outside of Washington D.C., the second plane crashed in a field in Pennslyvania, and the last two planes crashed into the Twin Towers. Within one hour and 42 minutes both 110 story towers were completely on the ground, with debris filling the air and fires starting to spread.
Of the three planes that crashed, two of the planes hit the Twin Towers, and one hit the Pentagon. The plane that didn’t hit anything had passengers that fought back and crashed it into a field in Pennsylvania. Powell Middle School had a trip that offered any honor roll student the chance to go on a school trip to New York. I worked hard all year, and I was able to attend the trip. We went to many places, one being the 9/11 Memorial.
On December 8th, 1941 Franklin Delano Roosevelt addressed the nation with his infamous speech known as the “Infamy Speech”. The speech is still known to this day with the time length as short as seven minutes and after the speech. Congress declared war on Japan and was the start for America to intervene in World War II. This speech is a great example of rhetoric with its context, audience, purpose, message, means of delivery, and timing.
But this dream would soon turn into a nightmare. The disaster of 9/11 was filled with villains, heros, and tragedies, but why would someone attack America and how did the people handle it. It started out as a normal Tuesday on September 11,2001. An airport security supervisor, Claudia Richey, stops a man that she thinks she saw on a police sketch. She tells her coworker but he assured her there was no connection and the man passes to
The terrorist attacks on 9/11 have caused many debates over the years since they occurred back in 2001. Two American planes were hijacked and ran into the twin tower buildings, another was hijacked and headed for the pentagon, but thankfully never made it. Thousands of Americans lost their lives on the days of the attacks and to this day the sorrow hangs with us. Security was a huge debate of the time because America is supposed to be the safest nation there is, so how did this happen? America had lots of changes to make the attacks on September 11, 2001.
Soon after, American Airlines shut down flights nationwide. “The other flight attendants on the airplane relayed information for Betty to report while also trying to keep the passengers safe and as calm as possible during the terrifying flight” (Betty Ann Ong Foundation). “Um, the cockpit’s not answering. Somebody’s stabbed in business class, and um i think there is Mace that we can’t breathe. I don’t know, I think we’re getting hijacked”.
A small, portable radio was on in the adjoining room where we would count large deposits of money. I heard the announcer say that an airplane had flown into the World Trade Centre and I remember thinking, "is this the end of the World?" and that I wanted to go home to be with my wife. This was the only time in my life when I have seriously thought that it was the end of the World.
Terrorism is not only a national issue but it is also a worldwide issue. In some cases we are not able to stop these attacks such as 9/11, the Boston Marathon, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Everyday kids are affected due to terrorism emotionally or physically. Something needs to be done quickly, and it starts with us. So how can we help?
Some would attribute it to luck or fate, however, people operate differently by invoking natural instincts, a quick emotional response, and lastly, fight-or-flight responses. September 11, 2001, is known as one of the saddest days in history. This was the day that Americans realized terrorism is all around the world. These attacks
The movie covers the subject of the devastating terrorism attack of America on the Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001. It covers the journey two port authority police officers went through that day and what they experienced. Real life events. The plot of the movie surrounds two New York port authority police officers (John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno) who are called in to help with the attack on the twin towers in NYC on 9/11.
The UNABOM Case began after the first mailed bomb exploded on May 25th, 1978. A Northwestern University professor called campus police when he became suspicious of a package that had been returned to him by the postal service, yet he had never mailed the package. Campus police opened the package, getting only slight injuries from the explosion. On May 9, 1979, another package containing a bomb was received at the same university. Six months later a bomb was found in the cargo compartment of an American Airlines aircraft.
On September 1, 2001, the country of the United States of America along with the world changed. An orchestrated attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and another target- unknown but possibly the White House -put in place by a group of terrorist, made headlines all over the world. These attacks cost the lives of many people in Washington D.C, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and New York City. In New York City, a total of 2,753 were killed when two planes were flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center.
• There are reports that the September 11 attacks killed 2,996 people and injured more than 6,000 Americans. These deaths included 265 that were on four aircraft, 2,606 deaths just within the World Trade Center and surrounding areas, and the Pentagon had 125 deaths. These deaths weren’t necessary if the government was behind this evil intention just to bring Americans together for support of a war against another nation.
During the September 11 hijackings, the worst terror attack on American soil, hundreds of lives were lost due to lack of fundamental communications between officials. 9/11 was the largest act of terror committed on American soil in which 23 radical Muslims hijacked four planes. Two planes were flown into the North and South Tower, one into the Pentagon and one drove down into a Pennsylvania field. Many argue that if there were better communication systems that were put into place that many more lives could have been saved.. According to the Associated Press, “Sept. 11 was a convergence of the worst possible problems in communication technology—a jammed commercial network made cell phone use impossible” (Sharp).
Q7. Women began demanding more political and social freedoms after they had taken on more responsibilities when all of the men had left for war. Women believed that by taking on more responsibilities back at home, they were entitled to more of the same freedoms like men. At the beginning of World War I, men were happily being shipped off to war in order to fight for their country; however, they hadn’t the slightest idea of what they got themselves into. They would find that they would be sending their men off to the slaughter.
