This happened because of the flight delays that are frequent in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and it seems like the people who are announcing in the PA system apologizing to passengers already memorized the script because they keep on repeating the same lines before every flight. Based on Erjan Orbe, the passenger in NAIA, said that, Puerto Princesa City to Manila took almost 2 hours because his plane had to circle around and wait for others to land. Since flights are delayed, some pilots pushed planes to the limit to make up for the lost time. The airport project management team and the BAE system were the only parties involved, but they are not the end user who will be affected by the project outcome and the decision made was not thorough and details which caused the subsequent failure. Likewise, the key stake-holders which are the individual airline operator who rented the space are the one could be impacted the most by the outcome of the new automated baggage system, and yet they were excluded out in the initial planning discussion and decision making. This was the big mistake made by the airport management team. Once the airline operators were finally asked for their opinions, major changes were brought up to the project team, such as, adding ski equipment racks, different handling for oversized luggage, and separate maintenance tracks for broken carts. The requests required major redesign on portions of the project.
As the poet Robert Frost once exclaimed “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—took the path less traveled” I too encountered the fork in the road. In fact, not only did the road diverge, it splintered and fragmented into a mad mess of tiny unmarked trails in a glowing enchanted forest. Japan Airlines flight 291: After graduating from the University of Minnesota, I packed my bags and set out for adventure. With the Robert Frost poem resonating in the back of my mind and a scene from the movie Dead Poet’s Society, “Carpe Diem: seize the day” in my head, I packed my bags and bought a one-way ticket to Narita Japan. I travelled across Asia and through Vietnam and into Thailand.
