Summary and Reflection on The Panic Virus Amid the ongoing dispute that links vaccines with autism, Seth Mnookin has published The Panic Virus in 2011. Due to what must be the success of the book, the author has re-published the book with an afterword in 2012. The book’s purpose is to provide perception of the truth using scientific facts and evidence. The author’s curiosity and interest in the issue grew after the realization of the suspicion of his friends toward the medical establishment and instead rely on journalism and media.
How would you feel if you discovered that doctors were pushing flu vaccinations on patients just for financial reasons? That, along with many other, is one good point Claire Dowskin brings up in her article “The Truth Behind Flu Shot Mandates for Healthcare Workers”. In some hospitals flu vaccination funding for employees is out of the funding, and in some hospitals, will fire, or not hire, people if they have not, or refuse to receive a flu vaccination, wearing a mask is not even acceptable. Seeing how strict and forceful some hospitals are about flu vaccines would make one think they act this way for a payout for the vaccine distributers. Another way to look at this is how unethical mandatory vaccines are.
Pro Vaccination Since the invention of vaccines, it has created a huge impact worldwide. As a child begins to start school, their required by the state to receive their twelve routine shots. The children who receive all their shots have a greater chance of not contracting any diseases. Throughout the years, vaccination or otherwise known as immunization has been a hugely controversial issue worldwide and whether or not to vaccinate children. However, vaccines are an effective and key role in keeping the human population healthy and safe.
I will be writing about whether to vaccinate or not vaccinate your children. I will then give my own opinions about whether I am in favor of vaccinating or not vaccinating children. It is important to know whether you should vaccinate your children or not and how you should do it. I will be giving facts found from websites and cite the websites. I will be talking about one side and the other.
In 2012, Brady Johnson lost his life due to lack of vaccination. He was diagnosed with measles, which is an easily preventable disease, as the MMR vaccination is 93% effective. With two doses of the MMR vaccine, it then becomes 97% effective. Measles is an infectious viral disease which causes fevers and a red rash on the skin. This disease typically occurs in children and when infected is very serious.

On the other hand, Dr.Jim Sears argues that Vaccination can be related to Autism, but its not the main factor, there are many other factors that cause Autism, where these factors are unknown. When you speak to a person, who is anti-vaccination, the first three words out of their mouth are usually “Vaccinations cause autism!” This number one anti-vaccination argument, yet it has been proven wrong time and time again. How come this false statement is still used so religiously by anti-vaccination supporters? The theory that vaccines cause autism was first suggested in 1998 by Dr. Andrew Wakefield.
However, there are more resounding evidence that disproves the relationship between vaccines and autism that can’t be ignored. The study, published by the Lancet in 1998, conducted by Dr. Andrew Wakefield ignited a controversy in the medical world. 12 children believed to have developed autism participated in a study that reviewed their medical histories and evaluated their developments. They were reviewed for any underlying biological/physiological factors that could affect the child’s health.
Required Immunity Mandatory vaccinations for children in public schools have been the center of much debate since laws were first developed to regulate immunization. Fears from parents about side effects and adverse reactions have steered many away from wanting to vaccinate their children despite the numerous infectious diseases they prevent. These debates have gotten in the way of progression in schools for preventing the spread of disease. To me, the risks of not vaccinating children are far greater than the risks of adverse reactions.

Mainly, parents don’t want their children to be vaccinated in order to attend public school or tend to lack taking them on time to get the shots. A vaccination is being introduced to the body which will then produce an immunity to a specific disease.

Vaccinations When it comes to vaccinations, there are many different opinions on immunizing a child, especially when that child’s parent has a strong like or dislike towards vaccinating. Immunizations have existed for at least a thousand years and as technology advances more, there are new vaccines being designed to help protect our children from contracting contagious and sometimes deadly diseases, such as Bordetella pertussis, polio, and even influenza. For decades, all 50 states have required that parents vaccinate their children against various diseases, including polio and measles, as a prerequisite to enrolling them in public schools (Ciolli, 2008). Enrollment in public school requires up to date vaccinations in order to protect the children and even the adults from contracting and spreading a disease, possibly causing an epidemic.
I do believe that Vaccinations should be required because of my personal experiences with vaccinations. While I was a young child many of the vaccinations really helped me strengthen my immune system. I believe that it depends on the type of vaccination if it should be required or not. There is fear and controversy in this because the faith the people put into the government and the medical field. I will go into more details on why or why not we should be required to have vaccinations.
